Migraine, Migraine Go Away

You can try a few options for longer-term prevention. Depending on your migraine symptoms, your doctor may be able to prescribe heart medication (ACE inhibitors, beta blockers and calcium channel blockers), antidepressants (tricyclics like amitriptyline), or even anti-seizure drugs (anticonvulsants, like topiramate), to cut down the frequency of your migraines. While heart medications can improve your bloodflow and antidepressants help regulate brain chemicals like serotonin and norepinephrine, no one's quite sure why the anticonvulsants help. With any of these options, you have to be very careful about combining these medicines with treatments for other conditions.
