Good choice

Do you think it is a good choice to put my 5 year old son on Vyvance? He is over hyper and complosive. He also has a hard time at daycare and school. He is disspurtive to the class and tends to hit and yell at teachers and friends. His Dr. is requesting to put him on Vyvance...is it a good choice..I have ran out of options?

I see that we have been talking under a different posting. Specialists consider age five to be too young for a diagnosis of ADD. If you are using a pediatrician to treat your son, you should change to a pediatric psychiatrist, or someone of that ilk. Too often the average doctor will resort to pills for a quick fix. You need a long-term solution. I would also have your son given a full physical examination. Emotional difficulties can have a physical cause.

I do not believe that you should give your child the recommended prescription, all young children( particularlly boys his age) have these same "problems". mostt of the prescriptions given by doctors today to kids they think are hyper active, are just being kids. most 5 year old boys only water to do one thing, run around and be active. in child care and school most times, kids do not get the opertunity to do this, and thus they tend to try to do it anyway to let out their energy. With time, and some nurturing on your part, and the part of his teachers, he should eventually get better, and the older he gets, the better he should get.

No. Get a better doctor. Better yet, give him a chance to grow up.
