How Much Water?

My son was just recently diagnosed with ADHD and started on Vyvanse.  Sometimes he swallows the pills and sometimes he waste them. So I have tried to mixed them with water and it doesn't seem effective. Is there a magic formula. so much med and so much water?  Please help me am I missing something?

I do have a counseler , that is helping with his treatment and I am educating myself and my husband on anything I read about it. I also talk to his doctor once a week about updates about his medications.  I just thought maybe I was missing something, I just see a differnce between swallowing the capsule and mixing it in water.  Thanks for the advice!

   Couple of possibilities.
First, vyvanse is a med that can be mixed with water.  It does need to be taken fairly soon afterward, and the whole capsule mixed into the water.  Your child would need to drink all of the water it is mixed with.  If he only drank half the glass, he might only get half the dose.  As far as I can tell, the amount of water used is not a problem as long as all of it is drunk.
Apparantly, acidic foods can cause vyvanse to not work as well.  So if he has a glass of orange juice, that could effect the reaction.
Finally, you mention he has just started.  Doctors usually start their patients (especially kids) out on the lowest possible dose and then wait for feedback from the parents before raising the dose.  Its the safest way to go.  Consequently, he may need a higher dose.  A child without ADHD should react to even a slight amount of the stimulant being used.  And vyvanse, I believe, is not a med that one has to take for awhile before it starts working.  So, you do need to talk to your doctor to let him know what is going on.  Oh, the med is fairly fast acting, so you should be seeing the results.
One thing that does bother me though is that this is information that your doctor should also have given you.  Hopefully, he/she is not being remiss in other areas of information.  Medication is only part of an overall treatment program.  And depending on your sons age - their is a lot of very important things that you can do to help him besides giving him meds.
If you have not gotten much info on ADHD, I highly suggest that you buy the book - "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley.   It will give you a ton of very useful information that can be used at school and home to help him.  And please feel free to post here if you have any other questions.  Also, if you don't mind, I would like to know what your doctor says.  It will help me help other people.  Best wishes.

By mixing with water - do you mean you sprinkle it into the water?
