Our pediatristion put him on 20 mg of Vyvanse. My son has had adhd since birth and I knew it. cuz his dad has it very badly and woulnt take his meds. Since birth, my son has been so difficult.... I cryed EVERDAY! His behavior was so bad, that everwhere I took him people would say you need to get him under control, as soon as he could walk , that is all I have heard. Well the Vyvanse, has saved our lives/ I finally have my son ,and his personaltiy for the first time. I have to make sure he eats his bfast before he takes it, or he wont eat. By super time it is wearing off. Only concern, is he has lost a pound or two cuz of the appetitie supressant in it. so he WONT eat lunch! But as a parent of an adhd child I highly recommend this med for your child of any age!!!!!!

My fathers adopted son takes this medicine also.  He gave another medicine to help with appetite but I can remember the name.  Perhaps you should ask about it.  Glad the medicine has helped.  Good luck to u.

Yes, I agree with Sandman.  I would work on things like physical outlets that will help his nervous system function better, social skills training if he needs, etc.  Take a broad approach for the best  results.  good luck

   I am glad to hear that the meds are working out for you and your son!  But, meds are only one part of what can help him.  Information about what ADHD is and how to work with it are also very important.  Thats one reason why I am glad that you contributed.  Parents need to hear all sides of the issue.
   I would suggest that you get the book, "The ADD/ ADHD Answer book," by Susan Ashley.  On p.157 she talks about how to deal with the appetite issue.  And the book is loaded with lots of other good information that will help you know and in the future.  Please post if you have any other questions.  Best wishes.
