I know this response may be a bit late. However, I know exactly what you are referring to. However, I usually play it out in my head, out of my mouth and to myself in the mirror. (not always in the mirror) I always thought that this was really not normal as for the whole talking to myself (or to some other person) in the mirror but I wasn't convinced that "in my head to myself" was abnormal. I believe I was in denial. I mentioned this to my therapist and I'm not certain that she really understood what I was trying to convey. You, my friend, hit the nail on the head. Thank you. Sounds like you are having "second thoughts" about actions, which is not unusual. And, I know that before writing many of these posts, I write them in my head before putting them on the computer.
I think that where it might become a problem is if the thoughts start to limit you. In other words, you spend so much time thinking that you are unable to act at all.
I am not sure if you meant to post to the ADHD site. But if you do have ADHD, it could also be a way to limit the impulsiveness that is so common for ADHD. But since anxiety and compulsiveness also tend to travel with ADHD, one has to be careful that the thoughts do not lead to excessive anxiety, or that anxiety/compulsive actions do not lead to excessive thoughts.
