how long for adderall to work?

I just started taking adderall 5 mg. I think I have ADD. My doctor is not sure. I think I read that it is cumulative. It has helped a little bit. I feel a bit calmer. I still space out alot and go "where does the time go". However, it is just a little easier to come back and focus (its not much).

is this cumulative?

I actually feel a little calmer. I don't feel hyper. I used to feel hyper alot of the day.

Dosage depends on size of the person among other things.  5mg is the smallest dose possible.  Doctors typically start out with a very low dose and wait for the patient to tell them how it went.  5mg I would think is enough to make you a bit hyper if you did not have ADD/ADHD.  It also is not very long lasting, so the effects would end after say 3 or 4 hours.
Point being is that you want to let your doctor know how the med is affecting you.  Give it about a week and then report back.  By the way, I feel that this information is something that your doctor should have shared with you..
