Adco-Dol or Syndol Addiction

Hi, I am in need of some advice. I am very scared and alone in my addiction and cannot tell my partner or anyone! I started taking Adco-dol when my daughter got diagnosed with T1 Diabetes which was about 3,5 years ago. For the past two years I have taken up to 8 or 12 a day. I guess I needed a coping mechanism! I have just recently started doing the research and heard today that a woman died and left 2 little girls behind as she was taking too many Adco-dols a day. The lady at the pharmacy told me. I am suddenly frightened, and have no where to turn. I really don't want to die. My dad killed himself and left a very broken child behind...me! How do I get off this stuff! Today I only took 4. I really want to stop, but HOW? Do I have kidney disease? Is my liver toxic and on its way out? Am I going to die? Please help or send me some advice if you can. Desperate for some comfort. Thank you.

Hi  Thanks for your reply. Yes it is codeine, but mostly paracetomal. I never even knew that until I researched it last night. I can't tell my partner, he would be so disappointed in me and will probably never trust me again. I think I have to do this alone. I live in South Africa where we can buy it over the counter - no questions asked. A friend introduced me to them after my daughter got sick. I got curious and took 2 and then it started from their. I just found life easier to deal with. After the research I have done I have found out that thousands of South Africans are addicted to Adco-Dol. I am just feeling disappointed in myself as here I have a 10 year old with a damaged pancreas not by fault and a mother who, by fault is damaging her own organs. Not a very good role model! I don't drink alcohol and eat only organic yet I pop pills all day...really stupid! I have to brave the consequences alone as this will only create problems in my relationship. I will visit the Dr this week and confess and take it from there. Thanks for your reply, it helped! I will follow up and let you know what the damage is! xxx

hello you realy are not alone there are so many good moms with your same problem addiction is a sickness also . and it is important that you do get off them it might make it harder for you to get off them without your partner knowing about this but you could go to your doctor and request a CBC blood work i think that would show if you have any damage

Hi & Welcome,

First off...breathe. Is that better?

Now, I assume that is some type of codeine because you can get it over the counter. I also assume you are not in the US. We can't get anything like that here. I don't know if you have liver or kidney disease. That would impossible to diagnose on the internet.

Your best bet is to do a taper and jump off when you are low enough. I strongly suggest that you tell your partner so you can get support and help. With a taper it is best to have someone hold them and dose them to you to prevent temptation. How do you feel about that?
