After Effects?

My son was in rehab for opiate addiction 9 months ago. He seems to really be trying but I have noticed his memory just does not seem right. Could this be an after effect? If so , is there a doctor we could take him to for help? I would appreciate any feedback.

I completely agree.  I dont know why, but drug addiction can wipe out whole chunks of memory.  Last week I was having dinner with my mom and she was talking about a day trip we took to the aquarium a few years ago.  I honest to God have absolutely no recollection of ever taking that trip or going to the aquarium or that day at all.  She pulled out pictures and I was shocked!  And its not like -- oh now I remember.  I STILL dont remember.. even after seeing pictures.

memory loss and lapses are a very common occurance during and after drugs,the brain does repair it self but it will take time be patient you have to do things to help your brain wake up again like word puzzles,brush your teeth with the oppisite hand try getting dressed in the dark (sounds silly i know but it does help) just little everyday things that most people take for granted and do automatically we addicts have to really work at it is very frustating but time will heal.

I to have what I would call black outs if I were a drinker.  I also sometimes have trouble putting sentences together.

hi peggy, my memory is awful post drugs.  most ppl i know that are addicts have that problem.  i have been clean for a year and i still have some problems remembering things.  i hope it repairs its self.  i dont know anything that a dr could do...good luck to your son.
