Am I allergic to alcohol?

I think I may be allergic to alcohol, although the only symptom I have is burning in my stomache, and nausea after only a sip of any kind of alcohol.  I think I may be allergic to it, but just have a mild case.  Is this possible?

How old are you anyway?  In my opinion, there are two basic allergies with alcohol.  One causes you to get ill enough not to ever experiment with it again.  The other one causes you to lose control and drink excessively to the point of insanity.  I have the second of the two, but it took many drinks and a few brushes with the law to realize it.  By the time you come to believe you have a problem, a lot of wreckage has occurred in your life. You can't begin to imagine how bad it gets unless you've been there!

Then there are the normal people who have no allergy and can take it or leave it.  You have to decide where you want to be  with alcohol.  J.B.

hm  that is a really broad question,,,there are people out there that are allergice to alcohol  the sulfites etc. in beer and wine etc..some people have complained about hive, nasal congestion, and typical allergy symptoms after consuming alcohol and in very extreme cases anyphyaxis (throat swelling etc) sypmtoms have occured after drinking beer and or wine again, probably due to the sulfites which are found in wine, coolers etc..let me ask you this...do you drink often?  Do you take medication,,do you have a problem with your stomach such as ulcers, a history of ulcers, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) where you have to take meds like Prilosec, Nexium, zantac etc.?  i suppose anything is possible...like Kstuebin said above strong drinks do cause a burning sensation..maybe your doc could better answer your question..next time you go in ask him...have you noticed if this occurs when you drink on an empty stomach or a full stomach?  I hope we have helped you a bit.....take care    cin

What happens if you have more than one sip?  Or have you only had one sip?  How big is the sip? Strong alchoholic beverages do cause a burning sensation going down and in your stomach. Haven't you ever seen someone throw back a shot on TV and make a face? I don't know about the nauseau.  Only time I ever got or get nauseous is when I drink way too much.  There are lots of informed people on here, some in the medical field, who would probably more knowledgeable about allergic symptoms.
