Anxiety Question...Ativan

Good Morning,

I am pretty much in the thick of with no Tramadol for about 6 days now. Very miserable. I was given some Ativan on Saturday for my massive anxiety from having a leg cast on while trying to go through these w/d's.

I know Ativan isn't considered an opiate, but I feel like it's making me feel better, I feel like it even got rid of my restless legs, seats/colds. I still have very slight fatigue but could the Ativan 1 mg be helping me? I don't want to replace my Tramadol with another drug. They only gave me 12 1 mg pills so I won't be on them for a long time. I have never had anxiety in my like or took meds like this. Help if you have any support or ideas on what I should do.

Did the prescribing doctor know you were going thru wd's?

And the hellish anxiety I completely understand.  It felt like I wanted to jump out of my skin and take off running and screaming. Fortunately it started to get better, and after the ativan was gone I just dropped it and didn't think about asking for more. Now, I'm not in a long leg cast and can't imagine what it must be like. I do have a broken left knee cap and cracked tibia from a work injury last June. Fell off a ladder. I have a metal brace on it instead of a cast and it comes off at night.  So I am right there with you on that and we can be fellow "gimps" or hobbling buddies if you like. Take care, -Bonnie-

Thank you Bonnie,

I am being careful! I was just having major anxity due to being in a long leg cast at the same time as W/D. It has really hekped my body become calmer and not as tired. Im just worried that when I am done with these 12 pills, all the symptoms will come roaring back, so I would almost rather get them out of the way now and stop taking this. But the anxiety was so horrible.

Hello Kylie, I wanted to say it's good to hear from you again and add a word on the Ativan. I am on day 24 from oxy/hydro/tram (whatever I could get) and the first week or so was hell with the anxiety and rls.  I'm not advocating anything to anyone, okay? But I did get my do tor to call in a script for 6 of them and they helped a little.  But I felt guilty the whole time and that was almost as bad as the anxiety.  Everyone's addiction and physiology reacts differently. I didn't experience any bad stuff when they were gone, but they are addictive in a big way and easy to mishandle.  Just please be careful and stay safe. Keep posting too! Blessings from -Bonnie-

So if I just take a couple a day for a week I won't get nasty withdrawals with them? I feel like they are masking my other symptoms.

Ativan is a benzodiazapine very similar to Xanax.  It has a high abuse potential and is not usually prescribed to people going through WDs.  You won't have a problem if you finish the 12 and don't take them again.
