Anyone have suggestions on sleeping meds?

just wondering if anyone has anything that helps them sleep better at night and not feel crappy in the morning.  I stop using Ambien and I cannot sleep, I have a refill but really want to use that as last resort.  My antidrepressant they gave me for this makes me feel like **** in morn and I'm not going to take it anymore.  I was up till 4:30 last night.  Any suggs that would help right away, I know some stuff like rozeram(melitonin) takes a couple weeks to build up but I can't wait that long.  Please let me know, thanks.

Thanks there are alot of choices.  And I stopped taking the Elavil and had to take an ambien last night.  I have to fall asleep or I won't get up for work and don't know what else to do.  Maybe I will try GNC and see what they suggest.

I really beleive sometimes not getting sleep is one of the reasons alot of people go back to pills...We need sleep, ans it is so tough when we get none..
i also beleive things work diferent for everyone..
I did take the melantionin, and advil pm...i also used the clonodine( not klonopin) and it did make me sleepy...
i know alot say don't use a benzo, but at the beginning i did use that too, but not too often, i just beleive the body needs sleep to heal..
also benadryl, i started taking it for the sneezing, and it helped with sleep...
Try different things until u find the one that helps most!!
I sure hope you can get some sleep soon!!!

Mabey Im just weird, but I was given a script for rozerum 2 years ago and still have seven or eight left in the bottle. If its supposed to build up in the body like an SSRI my doctor never made me aware of it and its always worked on an as needed basis for me.

If you have no access to anythingelse Id suggest some careful research into herbals. Do NOT take anything listed as an MAOI or MAO because these contradict pain pills and SSRI's both by allowing the above meds to cross the blood brain barrier... but there are non maoi herbs that can help. Chammomile and lemon balm can be helpful as can hops (hops are icky though even if you like beer).

*wishing you a good nights rest friend*

ps.. ambien although usually effective is a benzopine relative, can cause bizzare behavior that users often arent even aware of such as sleep eating, and people have been known to drive while on it without being aware until something happens like an accident that they were even behind the wheel. Id avoid these meds if at all possible or use only with extreem precaution anyways.

Deseryl- ala Trazadone and Nortriptyline are old school anti-depressants. The new ones are SSRI's and these others are called trycilics. Benn on Trazadone. Doesn't really make you sleepy, but when you sleep, you get "good" sleep. I can guarantee what your doc has you on right now that makes you feel that way in the morning. Evavil(sp)- Amptitriptilne (again, SP). Check your bottle and if I am right. If I am go off of them as they are too much for you. Trazadone is a good choice. I agree with the above, but don't know much about Nortriptyline, but it sounds like it would be different from the Ampti, since is Nor, but then again they maybe close. I would ask for Trazadone. I advise anyone and everyone to NOT take Ambien. It is a new med and they don't know as much about as they think. Go for the old school. They are tested, tried and true, and the ones we have mentioned, are old school. If you don't have a problem with a anti-anxiety medicine, then that is a sure fire way to get to sleep and it won't react with Trazadone. I have done it before. Of course, if you have an addictive personality, don't do this. But if you onlt issues was with what you were abusing, they can be of great help, as long as you take them like the label says and PRN them. If you think you can sleep without them, try it! I suggest Xanax or Ativan as they are fast workers. Klonopin, not so much. Please don't take the Ambien. Chloral Hydrate took Anna-Nicole and depending on the interactions of them meds he was taken Heath Ledger...God rest his soul... because his report showed no signs of illegal drugs and all of his scripts came up in normal limits. So, ther had to be an interaction. He had an autopsy, and they found nothing. He was working hard with Pneumonia and some weird a$$ doc gave him 2 anti-anxiety meds, an antihistimine and Ambien. Doesn't take rocket scientest to see what the hell happened! His system was in a very compromised state and the "normal limits" of all of these drugs, and there were more prescribed and they aren't releasing it, he took it to get wound down to sleep. He never woke up... I loved him. One of the greatest actors EVER! I hope with his death, it will either make doctors  more cautious, pharmacists and us. I don't know if you know, but if you tale Ambien and fight the sleep urge, you can end up very dellusional. SCARY dellusinal. God took my Heath away but maybe with a really good idea in mind. He was 28 and toxicology not yet confirming, but I can almost bet it was interactions. Still going to see Batman this summer. It won't be the same, but I will see it. I always thought the joker was hot. Jack was hot on the last one. I was psyced when I learned Heath would be casted. He had that Joker smile.... so sad....

Trazodone-
Nortriptyline-
Both are anti-depressants. In low doses used to treat pain and insomnia.
Both are prescription.
My Dr told me people have a real problem admitting they can't sleep. The trazondone doesn't make you sleepy, but it helps you get to REM sleep. I have been taking that for a few years and it really helps. It's non-habit forming and you only take it when you need it. The Nortriptyline is also an antidepressant @ 300mgs, I take 30mgs for pain and a side effect of it is that it makes you sleepy. This also is non-addictive. And don't forget good old Flexeril, a muscle relaxant. All are prescription only, non addictive and they all help you to sleep when needed.
Hope this helps, and soory I didn't see your post sooner.
