Can tramadol (ultram) cause chronic jaw / head pain?

I took tramadol for about a month after a surgery and now I am living with daily pain in both sides of jaw and back of head (base of skull).  Can tramadol cause that and does anyone know if it will go away...I'm miserable.  I can't even have a glass of alcohol socially or the back of my head starts hurting really bad.  I've tried a couple different muscle relaxers (zanaflex, parafon forte) and they didn't help.  I took flexeril for a few days and thought I was improving but it started making me depressed so had to stop..same with klonopin.  I tried an otc mouth guard while sleeping and hurt worse afterwards.  I've gotten massages and do stretches also.  This just hit me out of the blue and someone told me they thought tramadol could be the cause.  Any advice?  I'm getting desperate for relief!!

That sgood that your withdrawal symptoms have been mild.
i wondered if you could be clenching your jaw and were unaware of it. That would definitely cause the pain. You could invest In a over the counter mouth guard to see if that helps. It could possible be that you are anxious and it is manifesting itself in your jaw.
Does Advil, Motrin or Tylenol help?
Have you tried ice or heat on it?
If isn't a good idea during detox to drink anyway. It can definitely cause some issues that exasperate the withdrawal.
Jaw pain can be a not so common side effect of tramadol.
It should subside as time goes on.
I Hope and pray you feel better soon,
Debbie

I didn't taper and I've taken it here and there for endometriosis pain during the past couple of months also.  I think the pain started the day I stopped after taking for a few weeks straight...started as pain in back of head and then I noticed jaws hurting.  I just realized it could be connected, so I stopped for good a couple days ago.  Not having any kind of withdrawal symptoms, although when I first stopped taking it before, I had a short period of depression.  My husband noticed the other morning that I'm clenching my jaw in my sleep, something I've never done.  I also don't understand why alcohol makes back of head start hurting within an hour of drinking it...that just started too. So obviously I haven't been drinking, not that I'm a big drinker to begin with.  Just don't know what to do...wait it out?  The Dr has been no help at this point

Did the pain start when your when you stopped the tramadol?
How much were you taking?
Did you stop taking it suddenly or did you taper?

Yeah eventually it should unless it's not related to the pills itself
