I had two last time. I don't smoke and only dip. I did not dip the whole week and still got them. It is horrific pain and the only thing that stopped the pain was narcotics. I Havnt taken one pill yet! Keeping fingers crossed. I am just prone to them bc the extent of the wounds causes them. Its bc of my bad curved roots and all the trama they put my gum in. Its hard to clot. They did not do sutures in either. Idk y. I'll be ok. Good idea on the 800 ibuprofen tho! Thanks!
Dry socket is a whole different story, and like I said, steps can be taken to avoid that. The majority of people who GET dry socket are the ones who were noncompliant with the post-op instructions...they smoked too soon (big reason), or other things. Like I said too, it is not as common with winsdom teeth because a lot of times they're sutured closed afterwards.
No doubt dry socket would be something very hard to endure without some heavy hitting pain meds.
I would just like to add that if you have not experienced a dry socket then you have no idea what the pain is like, I experienced one many years ago and the pain was horrific, it lasted over two weeks. Even though I had it tended to at the time I was still getting bad pain in my jaw that got progressively worse over the years, then it became 24/7 and NOTHING took that pain away. No amount of narcotics would take the pain away and after years of pain I ended up on methadone, end result was that the dry socket never healed and caused me necrosis of the jawbone, three surgeries later it started to heal. Not sure why I added this, just telling you how I ended up on methadone I guess. Anyway I hope the dry socket doesn't happen.
Yeah really try the motrin! it was actually the only thing that worked for my severe tooth pain and I was even taking oxy at the time. The oxy only got me high and did little for the pain.
gnarly and nursegirl hit the nail on the head! Motrin. Big time motrin, like 800mg of motrin. That's what my DDS prescribed after my wisdomtoothectomy a few years ago.
I just had a abscessed molar that had my whole face swollen pulled.....the doctor told me that ibuprofen worked better then narcotic pain meds becuse it was also an antinflamatory it worked great very little pain...........Gnarly
