Kate, i agree about the ultram. there is no wonder drug to get you through this. best to just stay away from all scripts while quitting. if you have never had any issues with depression, than an antidepressant may help ; small dosage.
the slower you wean, the less the withdrawl severity and depression.
when i weaned down. i only took enough to make the withdrawls bearable. still uncomfortable, but bearable. never should feel a high what so ever while weaning.
scatter your dosing so you are not getting a constant supply of the drug. like the usual is take every 4 hours. well make it only once or twice a day.
wait as long as possible every day to take any. don't just take some as soon as you get up. if you can go the whole day with none, that helps and starts to drop your tolerance. the next day it will not take as much to get relief. a couple of days will make it go down even faster.
the idea is to get your tolerance down as low as possible before quitting altogether. and it gives your body a chance to keep up with the changes instead of shocking it by cold turkey with a really high tolerance.
it sounds like you don't have much to work left. but try to space it out as long as you can.
i was at 90 mg / day. my tapper went for 1 month down to nothing. last day was half of a 10 twice that day. my withdrawl was very mild and doable. that was almost a year ago. 3 weeks after i quit i was feeling completely normal and back to my old self.
best to you
Ultram is very addictive. You will find yourself in the same place or worse. Try and taper off. I know the detox is bad but it is a better alternative then getting addicted to another drug.
I've heard some people mention that Ultram (tramadol) helps ease the pain associated with withdrawals. I've been able to get some of those. Does anyone agree that this helps, and if so, does it help alot?
Thanks for being so responsive ZJillian -- I appreciate it. I'm scared ********. I honestly don't think sometimes that I'm capable of getting off this stuff.
It sounds to me like you are frightened of the WD. There is no magic cure without discomfort. And the best of taper schedules will not take that away.
Read on the health pages about the Thomas Recipe. And come up with as slow a taper schedule for yourself as makes sense. Tapering can be hard for some people and demands a lot of discipline, but certainly can be done. Most of us here have experience detoxing ourselves which is very doable with the support of this site. Ask for help, keep posting, and keep reading the posts and health pages.
WD a second time is often not as bad as the first because you know it is time limited and that you can make it through without so much fear of the unknown. You CAN DO THIS. It is a great first step to post to the site.
The people here are experienced and kind. Keep posting. And you've done great so far by posting!!!! Really that is a big first step.
