For those that know me, I've bounced in and out...  I've found most help thru a Dr. and support groups..  Well the time has come to stop the Methadone.  It's kept me from a life of Vicodin and a life of drug behavior.   My methadone plan called for me to taper to basically nothing.  It has worked until recently.  I found my addict self unable to go much below 10mg.  I bump around between 10-20mg...  I had all the pills counted out months ago to this point, so there was no need to "pill count" as I did for years with the vicodin.  So, all of the sudden I find myself at the edge of the cliff.  Having only slivers of pills left, I have to stop now.  Sure I could go to a dealer and find more I suppose... and maybe that wouldn't be the WORST idea... but I want to be free of this.  On one hand methadone saved my life, but on the other it looms as a demon who could swallow me whole.  I've seen this demon and I don't like it one bit.  Hopefully 4.5 months of methadone won't kill me in W/D....  hopefully.....

Do you go to meetings like AA or NA they can help so much...you are doing great and can make it but you will need support from other addicts that have been where you are.  Don't give up you are important and worth it..the disease isn't stronger than you and another addict working together to stay sober...don't go it alone.

hey girleee happy new year and I see your doing what you do best helping others out of there darkness ...im glad I can give back what was so freely given to me...I have alot of sympathy for those going thew methadone tapering it is difficult at best and can be
very frustrating when your in the lower doses if I have said it once I will say it a million times ''you just got to be ok without being ok for a wile" and that wile might be 6 weeks
or longer...you got to want it bad and I know Kfred does I only wish him a great 2010
one free of active drug addiction...and a great 2010 to all those on this forum..my god bless all our lives...BTW this is the first new years in 16 yrs that im totaly sober

hey dude ive followed your story since aug of this yr and know your struggles methadone
has had a positive effect on your addictive behavior but jumping off at 10 to 20 is going to be ruff...I think you need to be honest with your dr about your struggles with dosing
at 10ml and below....I struggled for 6 friggin weeks to get below 20 and since I had
plenty on hand I would take twice what I needed to get the "sick off" and screw up my whole taper eventually I got past it and today I got 73days clean....go to your dr and explain your struggles your not the first one to run out of methadone early if there
scrpting you a mo worth of pills just set up a planed taper break the pills into 1/4s
and drop off 1/4 a week till your down to 5mg then jump...I took it all the way down to 1mg but the tapering below 5 was shear he11 and my final withdrawal was no wosrt
then tapering below 5mg...try the dr first it will save you from another fall and a horrible withdrawal experience...methadone is alot stronger then most people think
and when you get to the lower doses you gain a healthy respect for it good luck

I know this wd has been weighing on your mind for quite some time.  Please dont go and get any from someone else.  That is old addict behavior.  When do you see your doctor again?  Are you mentally prepared to be totally pill free now?  You know i am your biggest supporter on here as i have followed your journey.  How are the meetings going?  I wish you nothing but great things in 2010!!!        sara

I wish I knew what to tell you that would help you,  I know nothing abt. meth except many people here say it is heck to detox from.  I almost wish you could go to sub and then detox but maybe not a good idea either.   Is there any way you could go to a specialists for help ?  I remember detox from opiates, norcos,  but have heard methadone is alot harder because of its' long half-life.

I think others will prob be along to give you their real-life experience.
