read your post and I agree with you and feel as you do..I GOT myself into this now I have to get out...yes its going to SUk but by god if I go through this it will be BURNED into my brain ( I know allot have said it but I MEAN IT) and I will NEVER EVER stand in these lines deal with RUDE people and also the FEAR of being Robbed now as the present methadone clinic I've been attending has is in city limits in Orlando so they have a police officer at all times walking the clinic making sure everyone doses and LEAVES...no one is selling drugs or doing anything illegal....BUT.........I just found out we are moving and the new clinic is less than 2 miles away right off the main road of St Rd 436 or Semoran Blvd in Orlando, Fl.  and we will no longer have a police officer on or inside the clinic as this one is not located in City limits ??
I am so UPSET....I already have had confronted or rather CURSED out and called a C word just becuz I was being Nice and backing my car out of this Horrible parking lot ....and when I decided to just park across the STREET this man whom I SEE everyday decided to "TRY is Luck" and find a spot so I am trying to pull out and he whips his Big ol Van nearly hitting me and at the same time stops to SCREAM in my car window "LEARN how to DRIVE you Stupid B___you F____kn C____T...
WELL lets just SAY he ASSUMED I had dosed and was pulling out to leave.....so when I parked and he decided to park his oversized van in a NO PARKING area....as I approached him weighing all of 120 lbs WET he shrugges his shoulders at me and i say "come on big man whatcha got for me try and say to MY face I'm RIGHT HERE".....THANK God my favorite NY police officer was with in feet of hearing HIM call me those lovly names and he just stood back as I calmly said what i said....as we walked by the police officer said "If I ever here you call HER or any other person man or woman such filthy names for just trying to manuver their vehicles outta this so called parking lot you're gonna DEAL WITH Me BIG MAN"!!!!

So Now with this new place we will be on Feb 16th with NO "safety net" becuz the clinic which makes millions wont even pay for an off duty police officer makes Me so much more determinded to continue with my taper and GET THE H3LL outta there!!!!!

I know I only wanted to agree with your statemtent and it turned into a BOOK...??? sorry I'm just so very passionate about allot of things...obviously???

ok I'll shut up...
take care

Hey Ken,
Im in Florida. Go to a methadone clinic too. My clinic has done some illegal actions. I could write a novel. and its hurt me badly. To keep it short. Get ahold of the State Methadone Authority in your state. You can on the net. See if you can get a copy of their regulations and talk to someone there. I hope this helps. The Methadone Authority really shook the clinic here and made them follow rules which they were breaking. Suddenly the clinic was kissing my a..

Good luck,

Methadone withdrawal itself wont kill you. Underlying conditions WHILE withdrawing can.  But very rare.  I've done it cold turkey and was certain it Would be the death of me. And......Voila! I see it as, you got yourself in this, You get yourself out with whatever it takes. Granted. .........it will be a brutal fight......but 100% attainable and worth it. :)

I would like to ask about the personal treatment methadone users recieve from staff at the clinic they go to. I have been going to a clinic in Grand Rapids Michigan for over 2 years now, I started because I was addicted to prescribed pain killers the strongest was oxicontin. I follow all their rules, I test clean, I only go 1 times per week because of clean drops. The personal treatment of patients at this clinic is horrible, they treat us more like criminals than patients, if you say anything they dont like they will send you home without dosing you. The other day I was going to be late so I called 25 minutes ahead of time to let them know I was to be 5 minutes late. They told me the doors will be locked, no exceptions, so I told the nurse I would try to make it on time. By the way I should mention this was on a Saturday, so if I dont make it I will be without for 3 days. Anyway, I made it there the same minute they closed, 10:45, I know because my watch is set to their clock, and the doors were locked. After beating on the door for 5 minutes the nurse on the other side said their was nothing she could do, and I did not get my medication. What the hell is up with that? This is not the way people aught to be treated! I know of no other profession in wich this would happen, remember I called! I feel so violated! This clinic is notourious for their long wait times, when I started 2 years ago it was not uncommon to wait 2-3 hours! The longest I waited was 4 hours! After enouph complaints, the wait time now is between 30 min to 1.5 hours.Which is still obsured! The treatment we recieve is that of a criminal or a 1st grader, does anyone else have similar expierience? Can anyone recamend a way for me to know my rights?

Speaking as someone who just came off 10 years on methadone it's hard to believe this works so well.

Detox is always gonna suck but don't make it longer than it needs to be.

Nothing he says is "bad" for you and if you're like me it'll make a huge difference.

The schedule you claim is the law is not how it works in AZ.  Is that by chance a law in another state?
In AZ you only get take homes for weekends during the fist year, work up to a week by them giving you a day a month at a time the second year, eventually rewarded with two weeks worth of take homes the third year, and a month's worth of take homes finally in your FOURTH year of testing clean consistently.  No matter when in what year you may screw up, either your U.A. or simply late a couple of times, the punishment is that  you end up going back to square one, and day one of year one, having to work your way back again.
If there is a federal law that this is not how clinics are to be run,  I would love to know where I could find this law to let them know about it.  Any help would be appreciated!

Is it possible to be prescribed methadone (I am in Tucson, AZ in case the laws differ in cities and states) by a doctor outside of a methadone clinic?  I went to a clinic for over five years, was on 165 mg a day of methadone, and found the clinic to be not just "pushers" but I also often was ripped off by the secretary of the money I liked to "prepay".  They are a shady business taking cash only, increasing everyone's dose, and telling them they will be on methadone for life.  I got down to 10mg a day on my own for about two years, however, within the last 6 months I have blown it, and would like to get back on track.  I trust a doctor to help me do this much more than a clinic.  Are there doctors that can prescribe methadone for maintence outside of a clinic?  I never even met the doctor that wrote my scripts at the clinic - is it possible he could write me prescriptions without me going, since he doesn't?
My other question is about suboxone.  My psychiatrist cannot prescribe methadone but she can attend a class so that she can prescribe suboxone, and has offered to do so for me.  My concerns about suboxone are as follows:  no one will admit methadone makes it's users "high" but having taken it for years I know better.  I also know why most prefer to keep that a secret.  Does suboxone also cause users to feel "high"?  If so, is it a similar high to that of methadone, and if not, how is it different?  How does the dosage of suboxone translate into methadone, in other words, 100mg of methdone equals how many mg of suboxone?
Would oxycontin be just as good of a choice in trying to conquer a methadone addiction?  What is the diffence in it and suboxone?  (other than I believe I could obtain it easiest of all)?   And re: that dosage how many mg of oxycontin equal 100 mg of methadone?
Are there doctors able and willing to use medications other than suboxone or methadone to treat methadone addiction?  If so, anyone know who, and can you recommend what medications might be good alternatives?
To be honest, my current substitution is probably the worst choice I could make- it is the one that grows naturallly and is plentiful in fields, and also plentiful in substances like codeine and morphine which means I am probably a worse addict right now than I have ever been.  For info on my currenrt problem, you can go to www.poppies.org or read the somifile.org.
I think it will take me more time this time to over come thein s
Last question is what are the differences in suboxone and methadone as far as side-effects, and affects as well?  Is suboxone a medication with a better success rate as far as eventually being able to live without?  Are there docotors that will fill prescriptions for methadone or suboxone without the clinic aspect?  That is the part I just can't go through again because I now I will come out of it more addicted to methadone the longer I have to get it through a clinic.  It is how they make their profit, after all.  It also bothers me that they only accept cash, I have a feeling it is a tax evading enterprise, amongst it's other problems.  To punish someone for being late, they even take away the medication they are physically dependent on for weeks, and reduce their dosage.  They clinics I have been to are more like daycares that operate under the table.  I would like to work with a doctor on my addiction I'd like to conquer.  It seems much more "above board" - but I am very concerned about whether or not it is possible.
I never saw the psychiatrist that wrote my methadone prescritions at the clinic once.  Is it possible he could prescribe outside of the clinic?  Is suboxone a better choice?  Will it make me feel miserable in the beginning?
I would appreciate any and ALL advice, especially by any M.D.s.  THANKS AGAIN!  I truly want to lose this monkey, and I'm cool with a legit doctor being involved, just not another clinic if AT ALL POSSIBLE.  Oh, and rehadbs have always just been more dangerous than the real world for folks like me.  Too many people there for the wrong reasons, and making connections I don't need to make, but will in that setting.

I've seen this guy before. He's got a good spiel but he "pooh pooh's" the initial withdrawals, I'm sure he gives a big smile when talking to patients and waves a hand dismissively while stating "Oh, the withdrawals will be uncomfortable, but manageable."
All this while looking like my loving uncle Kevin, who can charm the socks off the blarney stone itself.
Not to say that the rest of what he says isn't great, it is.

But anyone who comments that methadone doesn't cause deaths (proven fact, check successful lawsuits against Florida Jail system and others like it), and medication for the withdrawal is "Unusual and a last resort", is a program to go into a little warily; ask ALOT of questions!!!

What is wrong with my brain??? I had been on mmt for about 6 months. They tricked me of course... so i went on fee detox and detoxed from 170 to 15 in 15 days, i got deathly ill... i had to go to the hospital and get an iv because i couldnt keep anything down... So i started using heroin again, hoping to get high.. lucky me, i have to use again but i cannot get high from it.. no matter how much i try, why is that? It has been nearly a month and i still never get any higher than feeling normal. Before when i was a junkie, no matter the ammount, i still got the rush, and the part i liked about it. Methadone has basically ruined my life. How do i make my brain work again?

I have been on MMT for 10+ yrs... I do not go every day- you only have to go on daily's for 1mos-with clean urines, after that you go 4days, 1mos, then 3days 1month,2days then 1x a week coming back bi-weekly then 1x a month- there are federal and state guidelines that must be followed, you must have clean observed urines, you must attend group, you must attend 1 on 1 counseling at the clinic, you have STD, AIDS, and TB testing offered for free. You are strongly encouraged to attend 12- step meetings- there are now Meth- anon meetings for those who feel discriminated against in AA/NA...anyway just like anything else it works if you want it to work. What works for me may not work for you....good luck with whatever you choose.
