i as well have had several surgeies...and this was worse than neck surgery for me..it was the longest recovery and most painfu of any surgery i have had...and it was before i used..so was the neck surgery....but it helped me alot
I know this is a really old post, but sinus surgery was the beginning of the end for me. I had never taken a pain pill in my life until I had a deviated septum repaired and tonsillectomy when I was 26 years old. I will say it was the worst thing I have ever experienced. At the time of the surgery and about a year after, I only used the pills as directed, but slowly discovered that I had become very dependent on them to make it through the day. Thus an addict was born.
Hi, let me just say first I've had quite a few surgeries in my life but only one in the last 5 yrs since on methadone. My docs (prescribing dr and surgeon) both told me not to worry. I know of at least two other persons on long term methadone who DID NOT HEAL QUICKLY and One who HEALED WRONG! and lucky me ...I healed so slowly and poorly this time it was HORRIBLE and still both docs told me......nope not possible that it was methadone.....I have no doubts. Best of luck and this is NOT to say it would be this way for everyone. Just that I know what I have witnessed and been through.
Your pain meds during surgery are going to be through an IV we all know when narcotic are taken IV push they are twice as strong as when you take then by mouth, Your after care meds may just be an increase in methadone I dont think the typical post op drugs are going to touch your pain,
I'm talking all the hydro and oxycodone are going to work then you might have to deal with a little withdrawal if they should give you like Dilaudid, or oxycontin, By increasing your dose you wont have to deal with any immediate withdrawal. Get the methadone adjusted or even better ask the MD if he does give an Rx tell him you want the methadone pills increase of 30mg per day, You will have less of a time adjusting to that dose, I emailed you today w/info on sub transition and fibro info I came across- Have a great day--------------------NOAH
Go to this website, you can see what constitutes a dose of morphine equivalent to 100mg of methadone.
http://www.globalrph.com/narcoticonv.htm
It appears as though about 115mg of morphine is equal to 100mg of methadone, but there are other factors involved such as oral administration vs. injection and if the methadone is taken for chronic or acute pain.
I called the clinic and they said "no buffer" but that some think that it blocks the effects of lortab, oxys etc.. They would not give me any info really, but insisted i tell the surgeon about the methadone. Of course i will, i don't want to DIE! Their dumbassess that run it.
I think it depends on whether the methadone has an opiate buffer or not. Some does, some don't.
