Help me quit!

I was on morphine- 60 MG, 3/day for chronic back pain for 3 months. I lost my Pain Management doctor, and now can only get percocet- 10-650...5 a day. I want to quit cold terkey!!! I cannot afford a DETOX TREATMENT. I need to know how long the withdrawals are expected to last, and what to take-over the counter, thats not addictive in itself, that will help until the withdrawals are gone. I have been addicted to heroine before and quit cold terkey in 8 hellacious days... Is this going to take longer, is it worse withdrawal-wise, and what can I do to lesson the withdrawals, if anything. I was a mixed martial arts fighter for 5 years, and have terrible back and shoulder pain, but can tolerate the pain, more easily than the dependancy. Help me, any one, if you can answer these questions. Thanks.

Wow, I am deeply sorry for you. My heart goes out to you. I know from my minor-compared to yours, addiction-(1 10-650 4 times a day), what it will be like to come off of the pills. Its never good to take more than 6 a day-for your liver will go! Please, for the love of God...Stop taking so many! The monthly perscription is gone in a week? then what do you do until your next perscription? I want a detox treatment at home too, mainly because I have no medical insurance that will cover me through detox. From everything I've heard, the first 4 days without, will be the worst, and then it will get easier to be without pain killers. But if the pain is intense, you will go right back to the pills. My pain from my accident and damage afterwards has gotten bearable without meds, so I want off of them to prevent further addiction.

Hi Gary, I'm reaching out myself for help.  I've been diagnosed with a bilateral knee condition where the cartilage on the back of each patella is breaking down and wearing away.  I'm too young for total knee replacements.  I live in agony daily.  My pain management doc prescribes me 180 Percocet 10/325's, no more than 6/day.  Helps the pain great, but also makes me feel like "superwoman" and before I know it that 180 pills is gone in about a week.  I'd like to find a detox treatment at home, because you see, my family has no idea it has gotten this bad.  Quite frankly, I'm too embarassed to fess up.  Hoping that both of us can get some good advice on here.  Best of luck to you and God Bless us both.
