How do I stop snorting Subutex?

I have been snorting Subutex for two years. 1 and a half 8 mg pills once per day. I started using Subutex just for the high, not to get off of another drug. I've started to get clean; July 8th I stopped snorting them and starting orally taking a half a pill a day. What should I be expecting as far as withdrawals, and what are the best ways to go about dealing with them? Eg. Vitamins, diet changes, etc. Also, my insurance won't cover most doctors but should I try using Methadone?
Thanks,
MIchelle

Hi Michelle, you'll hear from the sub experts on here soon. Hang on to the willingness you now have. You can do this. I've been here over 9 months and have seen lots of ppl get clean from subs. Getting clean is an event, staying clean and really enjoying life while not using is the main goal in the long run. That goal is also entirely reachable. Glad you posted. Your journey has begun, congratulations on your decision!!

Stay away from Methadone!!!!! I was on it a very short time (month and a half) and a low dose and it was BRUTAL coming off.  I am still feeling the effects and it will be a month I am off on Tuesday!!! I went to the clinic because I had no insurance either and never did any research.

I'm sure Weaver or nursegirl will tell you the best way to come off.  They should be around soon.  Please don't do anything until you hear from them or anyone else who has experience.  Good luck!!

I know the strips are better. The med is more evenly distributed. You need to speak with nursegirl. She will have all the info on the subs.

I know the Suboxone strips are better, do they make a Buprenorphine tablet which is more evenly dosed? I am trying to ween myself off of it by reducing the dosage over a period of time, but if some parts of the tablets contain more Buprenorphine, this method may not work. If there is no tablet like this, how much Suboxone would it take to replace 4mg (half of an 8mg tablet) of Subutex? Is Suboxone even a viable option? How would I go about getting it? I do not have insurance, is there anything I can do?

I don't personally have experience with subs or methadone. There are quite a few folks on here who do though. I do know that methadone is a long acting synthetic opiate just like the subs. They are both harder to get off of than the shorter acting opiates. The withdrawls are lengthy. So switching will probably not get you anywhere. Your best bet will be to get down as low as you can dose wise and jump off. Good luck to you!
