How to withdraw from long-term hydrocodone use

I've been taking hydrocodone for the past five years, and at maximum prescribed levels (1-2 tablets every 4-6 hours - - which, naturally, means 2 every 4 hours) for the past two.  How do I get off this stuff?  Cold turkey?  Phased withdrawal?

I have been taking 20 to 25 daily 10/650 loricets for the last 2 years, I am not prescribed them but I need to get off them, any suggestions. this just keeps getting worse, I take them all day and even wake up during the night to take them, i have not went more than 7 hrs without taking some, I can not believe they have this much of my liife consumed .   what should I do,

I am 23 yrs old and have been addicted to loratabs for 4 years and in tht 4 yrs have never went a day without atleast 10 pills I have been in my relationship 2 yrs and he has NO idea I even take them I'm lost and in desperate need of help and dnt kno where to start some one plz help me tonight I tried to stp and I felt like I couldn't. Ijust wanted to tell you my story.Iknow its not over for me,but I will tell you there is HOPE! In 2006 I slipped on my bathroom floor and the corner of my cabinet went in the middle of my knee cap.The Dr wired my knee cap back together. I don't know if anyone has ever told you how painful knee surgeries are...But 7 knee surgeries later...to make a very long story short...I ended up having 3 knee replacements due to staph infection. Doctors kept having take knee out and putting back in. So basically went without a knee for a whole year on iv antibotics.really they didn't think I was going to have a leg. I am 41 years old,but had to be on narcotics on and off for 6 years. Everytime - tried stopping them I had flu symptoms. So I have been off and on them. But for the past 2 years I have been taking 10 mg of lortab, It helped for a while then I realized I was taking to keep from having withdrawals. I have 3 kids and a wonderful husband, but it was destroying my marriage and life. I weaned myself off gradually from 10 mg to 5 then 2.5mg. It has been a full week with nothing at all and the only withdrawal now is hunger pangs. I can get medicine anytime I need, but I refuse.Just be strong and know. God can help you through prayer. And you can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens yoU. I will be praying for all of you. We can do this!

In 2008 I was taking 12 lortabs a day 10/650 actually Lorcet. I was very addicted. Taking 12 a day for 2 three years. Well the Dr who gave me these meds passed away and i could no longer get them due to the fact that no dr would prescribe so much to such a young person in thier 20's. If you go cold turkey PLEASE take off 5 days of work if you can use vacation days or sick days, It took me 2 weeks, by the end of 14 days I felt better and energy I hadn't had in years, as more days went by the better I felt. I did take Nyquil to help me sleep and I did smoke a little weed to ease the with drawal. Once you get through this hell weeks don't go back. Recently in 2012 I went to a dr and was prescribed Lorcet 10/650 3 a day. But I was given 100 for the month that was on 8/20/12. I have 12 left. Waking up this morning these are my withdrawals, watery eyes, hot and cold chills, stomach ache, going to bathroom ALOT, achy muscles, very tired and sluggish, I did however break down and shoved 2 in my mouth, this is how I know DAMN I am Addicted. I feel for everyone that has to go through this torture. But my advice is if you are running low and you know you can't get a new script........if your able take off of work at least 5 days.......but see the addict in me if you know you can renew well I would just get them again until I couldn't until there was no refills left.
