Drugs Addiction Contributed To Heart Problems?

I posted a few months ago about my mother and her addiction to a variety of prescription drugs.  Since then she has admitted to her problem but has done little to nothing to help herself quit.  She says that she is slowly tapering off, but the bottles are still all over her house and my father is still getting more and more from his doctors that she also shares.  This past Monday she was admitted to the University Of Maryland Hospital for what was supposed to be a triple by-pass operation.  As it turns out they did a quadruple.  She was sent home on Thursday with more pills than I have ever seen, including morphine,  valium, and percoset.  I know that she hasn't told the cariologist about her problems because my father was smuggling morphine in to the hospital before the surgery.  He doesn't know I know this and the only reason I do is because my brother ws looking in her purse for something and found the bottle.  My questions is this:  Is is likely that her drug use has contributed to the heart trouble?  It seems as though she has a new problem every other week now.  From kidney problems to headaches to the latest heart problems.  I am trying to understand how to cope with this and how to help her but it is getting harder and harder all the time.  The thought that we could have lost her is devastating to me and my family.  I don't know what to tell my kids when they ask if the heart trouble could be due to the drug use either.  They are only 9 and 14, but they know what she is doing just by watching and listening to her.  What do I do about the pills she has now?  I know she is in pain but is really nessasary to have morphine and percoset and valium????  Please help me understand this.

I have begun tothink you may be right Sandi.  As long as dad is helping her get the stuff there isn't much I can do to help.  I guess if she has the need to do this to herself I can only sit back and watch.  I suppose my next step is to help myself and my family deal with the inevitable.  It's such a shame to see some one I love slowly killing herself this way.  But the worst part is trying to explain to 2 kids why Mom-Mom is doing this.  To say she is sick seems like such a lie.  I know that is true but they are young and don't really understand that.  Any way thanks for responding.

Hi Lori, I remember when you posted about your Mom's drug addiction, you are in a losing battle & might as well give it up because there is NOTHING you are going to be able to do about it. especially if your father is enabling her. I was also having problems with my Mom & drugg addiction, we got her clean through rehabs...just got a call, she has turned to alcohol again..total binge...I give up...
