Infant treatment for vicodn withdrawal

What is common detox procedure for an infant born addicted to vicodin?  My daughter-in-law's sister's baby is being given morphine.(???) What is usual time for withdrawal?

the hospital system i work for uses methadone, it is up to the doctor

I actually just talked to my pediatrician about what would be the treatment on a baby born with vicodin withdrawls... he said that sometimes a mother can barely use and have a baby with severe w/d or sometimes a mother can be a heavy user and the baby not have any issues.. that until they are born you don't know what you are dealing with.. that the typical issues with a w/ding baby is irritability, poor feeding, weight loss, and diarrea,, depending on how severe depends on the treatment.. that worst case they would have to give the baby an opiate "morphine" and slowly wean them off of it... I really wish you, your family, and the new baby all the best and you'll be in my prayers...

Mom was prescribed vicodin for last three months of pregnancy after auto accident.  No warning given to her re: potential danger to baby.

Yes it is , trust them OK the will do what is very best of that precious little baby OK . Were they aware of her use before she gave birth?

The doctors know best I assume. The poor little thing would be in horrible pain without something. I don't know much about it, but withdrawals for adults can be pretty intense so a baby's life could possibly even be in danger without some sort of drug therapy. I'll pray that the doctors make the right decisions and that the mother also gets the help she needs. What a sad beginning to life...It's wonderful that you have such care for your daughter-in-law's sister's baby.
