dexadrine addiction

my husband currently takes 120 mg of dexadrine a day.  he gets his prescriptions from 2 different doctors which neither know about the other.  he says without this quantity he cannot get through the day.  when he runs out he crashes and all he wants to do is sleep.  he has had trouble with depression in the last 3 years.  please help me! i cannot get him to stop and i am afraid this much medicine will eventually kill him.  what should i do? he weighs approximately 180 lbs and is 44 years old and is also a heavy smoker!!

THIS GUY I KNOW WAS GIVING ME DEXADRINE. AND WE WOULD SNORT LIKE A TON OF IT ALL THE TIME. I WAS SO JACKED UP ALL WEEKEND AND WHEN I CAME DOWN I WAS MISERABLE SO I KNOW HOW YOUR HUSBAND FEELS. YOU SHOULD TALK TO BOTH DOCTORS AND TELL THEM WHAT IS GOING ON AND MAYBE SEEK SOME HELP FOR HIM.

Hi
My prayers are with you. For years, I have suffered with depression too. It can get very hard. I too become very dependant on drugs. I encourage you to seek proffesional help. If you ever need to talk, email me at ***@****. I am praying for you and your husband.

He is in trouble.  Tell one of the doctors.  If he uses it in excess his heart will race, which he is undoubtably doing.  I am twenty and I get chest pains when I overdose.  He's forty four.  I would serously fear for his health.  He just likes the good feeling it gives him, and he is addicted.  So am I but I am trying to stop.

Patti-

It sounds like he needs help! Does he see his problem use of the Dexedrine (speed) as a problem? Does he want help? He needs  medical attention for proper evaluation of his condition, and he probably will need some type of treatment program to begin his recovery. Hopefully, you can get him to an Addiction Medicine Physician or Addiction Psychiatrist. If he is willing, Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meetings could provide him with support for his recovery. Whether he decides to get help or not, you could benefit from Alanon meetings. This is a difficult thing you are living through with him, and you can find support for yourself in Alanon. You will need support. Good Luck. Geoff.
