Legally obtaining Naloxone

hi,

I will make this quick. Is there any way to get a hold of Naloxone legally? I thought it might be nice to keep some around, but really, I would like to take it to help speed up WD. Does anyone know if this would work, or if it is possible? I am not concerned with the pain it would cause, in my mind, its better to have one hard punch to the face than several small kicks to the groin.  Opinions?

Well it IS possible. If you want to put your life/health on the line. It's called 'ultra rapid' detoxification.

It has to be done in a hospital and the last fatality rates I've seen were 6 deaths out of 2,350 patients. Not sure about other complications - that's just deaths.

They have to put you under general anesthesia to control the convulsions and be able to control your heart rate - it will go through the roof and can be dangerous.

The cost is considerably high for it as well as insurance will not cover it. Also, finding a doctor to do it can be difficult.

Thanks for the help. So, to summarize, there is no clear benifit in precipating acute WD as opposed to just riding it out? I thank you for your help.

Unless the naloxone (narcan) is in suboxone...there is no benefit you would receive from just taking it independently.  It is PRIMARILY used in healthcare settings, to reverse opiates, for opiate od's...in surgical situations, etc.  Unless in sub, it would be inappropriate to use like you say you would use it.

Honestly?  Other than in the sub...I have NEVER heard of it being prescribed for anyone.  I'm not saying it hasn't been...but in my experience...never.

Good luck.

I believe that is an RX item.....you might want to take a talwin....since the formulary there has been changed to include the narcane - - you will find out what they mean by precipitated withdrawals - - not a good time
