METHADOOM

Has anyone withdrawn from methadone? I have been on a daily dose of 120 mg for 11 years. If anyone has been successful in withdrawing from methadone or has any info on where I can got to get off of methadone. I live in Georgia and would be very appreciated to anyone who can give me advise on what to do.
Thanks,

I went cold turkey off of 25 mgs of methodone and my detox was just about the same as Penelopes, same symptoms, same length of time to feel normal again.I still struggle a bit from time to time with the energy and the sleep issues but for the most part life has resumed.Penelope is right about it being time consuming so you have to be mentally prepared for that. The first couple of weeks are the roughest so it's best if you can schedule yourself some down time in the beginning.Once I got past the first 4 weeks it was all much easier to handle and by week 6 I was well on my way.Now life is good and I'm so grateful to be free of methodone.I wish you all the best and keep posting. This is a wonderful place for help and encouragement.Peace.

Hi..I did successfully come off of methadone..I went cold turkey on 65 mg...as you I am sure know..it is not easy..It's the hardest but most worthwhile thing I have ever done..If you could try and taper to at least 60 mg..I suggest cold turkey..Please check out my journal entry about methadone..there is so much good info there and things you can do to help with the w/d...feel free to pm (personal messgae anytime)..I would love to try and help...as hard as this is..it can be done..I will be clean 2 yrs on Aug1...I know it is hard not to be discouraged..it takes alot of determination and will power..bottom line..there is no easy way...I look forward to talking to you..Have you ever tapered lower?? Please don't lose hope...Lisa

I detoxed off methadone about 4 months ago, with success. I was at 90mgs & tapered till I got down to 2mgs, I cant say it was easy, because I had some ok days & some bad days, in total it took around 1 month to start feeling better, & a additional month to feel normal. The worst for me was the fatigue & anxiety, oh & not sleeping was very difficult, but I got thru it, & so can you!  I figure the true key to getting off methadone is to get off of it & understand it is time consuming, time cures the withdrawals, at least it did for me. Once you get past the first few weeks, your on your way to recovery. Good Luck to you, Penelope
