Some doctors will do what's called a "high dose transfer" at 60mg. You'll have to ask the specific doctor, though.
I haven't taken methodone, but I am on subutex(suboxone - same thing) and it works great. You go to the dr and he gives you the scrpit, usually a month supply. When you start they give you like seven days at first, then you come back in and you discuss what dose you need. It took me about a week to find the right dose - 4mg. I think you may like it and find it works for you better. I am not tired, I can drive, I feel normal, and feel great. It works very well. Good luck

Hey, welcome to the Forum. 2 weeks ago I switched from methadone to SUBUTEX which is the same thing as Suboxone except the subutex doesnt have Narcan in it.
I can only tell you that it was truely the hardest thing I have ever had to go thru in my entire life. I don't want to scare you , but I agree with avisg you should definatily get your methadone dose down lower before you switch. I was on methadone for 10 years my highest prescribed dose was 120mg but I was always one to take extra. I finally got down to 50mg but was still taking extra every now and then I just got sick of the whole clinic thing and decided to just quit so I didnt take any methadone for 2 days I really wasnt in withdrawls but I just didnt feel good. I took a subutex and it immediatly sent me into withdrawls it was awful. This went on for about 5 days I kept taking the subutex and they kept putting me into worse withdrawls than I was already in. Finally on the 7th day I started feeling better. NOt high but not in withdrawls. My best advice to you is to MAKE SURE you are in Severe withdrawls before you take SUBOXONE OR SUBUTEX . Methadone stays in your body for a really long time. It's gonna be hard but I promise you can do it. Stay strong and I'm here if you need me. Good Luck & God Bless AJ
My son was addicted to methadone for about 5 years when he started a suboxone program with a doctor in Berkeley, CA, in September, 2007, when he was 25. Three months later he moved to Oregon, where we (his parents) lived, and started with a doctor in Grants Pass. He was taking 8 mg tablets, 2/day from then until May 08, when he began to taper, going to 1.5 a day, then to 1 and then 1/2 during June. In July he went back to 6 mg daily (3X2 mg) because he had trouble dropping down to 4. In August the plan was to go from 2X2 mg to oneX2 mg for two weeks, then to half a 2mg tablet daily.
(this is all from the doctor's notes).
In early September, he tried to stop altogether, then had very bad WD's, bought some methadone, and was hospitalized from an overdose that nearly killed him. If it seems crazy to take suboxone to detox from methadone, and then to OD on methadone to get over the suboxone withdrawal, that's because it is crazy, but it is a very possible scenario. He didn't intend to OD, but after 11 months he had no sense of his tolerance and took too much.
I don't know what help you can get from this story, but I would offer two pieces of advice:
1) if you go the suboxone route, give it plenty of time toward the end of the taper. One tends to be in a hurry and drop off too soon.
2) what ever you do, if you relapse, DON'T OVERDOSE! It's very easy to do, and it can kill you. I was with him at the time, and he went from conversation to respiratory failure in seconds: if I hadn't been there to call 911 and do CPR, he would have died.
you need to be on less the Thirty mgs methadone to go on sub talk to your doctor have them help you taper down then if you still feel the same way look into alot of research into sub.
