I was going to tell you about some other meds but some one else beat me to it and all you have to do is tell the dentist that you don't like narcotics cause they make you feel out of it or tell him or allergic or you could just tell him the truth cause he can't tell your friend it's called doc/pat confidenteality. That why we have these contracts with our doc and dentist other wise they could walk around telling the whole world our business. You have to be able to trust our care takers and if you don't trust him with not telling your parents then i suggest getting a new dentist.

One of the best pain relievers for dental pain is ibuprofen and tylenol extra strength can be added if not enough. There is another antiinflammatory called toradol that works quite well.none of these are opiates and can be used in the future if you are not allergic to aspirin or have ulcers or are take warfarin.

"and i knew in my heart i could handle it"

in the relm of addiction, i've learned to be very wary of what i think i know, whether the knowledge seems to come from my heart or my head.

i don't ever put myself to any kind of test when it comes to my addiction.  i have nothing to gain by passing such a test and everything to lose by failing.

if i put myself to tests, sooner or later i will fail one . . . and one is all it takes to cook my goose.

the thought that "i could handle it" seems to have marked each wrong turn i took on the road to active addiction.

the thought that "i should be open, honest and willing to seek help with this" seems to have marked each right turn i took on the road to sustained recovery

Wow you did really good! I know how it hurts from having a tooth pulled; I had my upper left back molar pulled (the one right next to the wisdom tooth) and once the numbness wore off it was hurting. Great job for not getting the script filled!

Good for you on tearing up the script.  I would tell the dentist you dont want any type of narcotics tho.  That way there will be no temptation the next time.  Keep moving forward!!!!!!!!          sara
