Well this is great timing! Help!

Hi guys. I'm so sorry I haven't been posting a lot here. I have been dealing with a lot of issues lately but I have also been relatively clean if you don't count the Ativan and Ambien I am weaning off of. I am off the Subutex now. So guess what I just found out yesterday? I have to have my ovaries out next week. I had a hysterectomy last year but I kept my ovaries. They should have taken them out but that's a long story. The point is, I will be back on pain pills after all of this hard work getting off of them. Before any of you say "just take ibuprofen" I don't think I will be able to do that. Last years surgery was hell and I have a feeling I am going to need the pain pills. This is the 1st time I am not looking forward to getting pain pills! I just can't do this all over again! I need your support and advice. Help! Ggin35

I haven't been here much either.... I'm wondering how you got off of the sub so fast???  how are you feeling now???

Hope you're doing well, sorry about the new op.  Just take all of this one day at a time and there are other drugs you don't have to be opiated by???

Sorry that all is not well but you are wiser now going into this. You know what can happen so you take control and don't let the pills.Take what you have to and then put a stop to it. Believe me I know it's hard and it's easier said then done, but the pain for a short time is easier to deal with than years of off and on wd's. Good luck and be strong and remeber how WD'S SUCK

I know what you mean.  I had just finished w/d hell and was completely clean for about a week when I had my hysterectomy.  If I was honest with myself, the pain wasn't bad at all.  More like cramps.  But what is an addict to do when you wake up and they've already pumped morphine into you?  I saw another post the other day from someone who had surgery and specifically requested a certain type of drug that was not addicting.  The thread name was something about be being mad at the doc.

Hi, I am so sorry that you have this additional stress now after you have come so far.  But I really don't think you have too much to worry about.  You are so determined to stay away from the drugs, you will be okay.  Just take them when you absolutely have to, surely after 1-2 weeks she will not need them anymore and I would not think that you would have to go through too much withdrawal from being on them that short a time.  There is nothing we can do about it, you have to have surgery and you do not need to suffer unduly from post-op pain, just take the smallest dosage you can.  I would try to stick with IM meds while you are in the hospital and only take the pills as you need them when you go home.  You are going to be fine.  I am wanting to start the Suboxone but also wanting to have the lap band surgery soon, so I am trying to figure out what to do as far as waiting to get off my meds after the surgery because, like you, I don't think I can survive a major surgery without the pain pills.  When I donated the kidney to my husband, I thought I would die from the post-op pain, nothing helped since my system was used to the drugs, and they ended up giving me 5 times the normal amount of Dilaudid for the pain to just be bearable.  That is all I wanted, for it to just be bearable, could have cared less about the "high" at that time.  Most of the doctors and nurses were very compassionate and supportive, but a few treated me like the scum of the earth.  Well, good luck dear, I will be thinking of you next week.  Please try to find a way to keep us updated, okay?

Love, Cindy

Hi
I went to my primary care Doctor and he gave me time released morphine? I was skeptical at first as I was on 6 vicodin ES at the time? I really did not want anything stronger and didn't want him to think I was trying to get more than I needed? He explained it would help control the pain without the high you get from the other pills! My problem was I needed the Vicodin during the day to work and had none to take at night from 2:30 PM till 6:30 am. They morphine worked fine for me at night I was able to rest fairly good. During the day they worked ok just still needed 2 vicodin to get through.  The only caution is after three months on it I started to get short of breath, something you might discuss with your doctor? You should not have that problem because 2 weeks or so you should be ok? Something to think about?

A good doctor will only give you an Rx for 20 or so pills, with possibly one refill.  Ovaries are often removed laparoscopically too, which may be less painful.

Once your Rx is gone, consider it done.  At that time, you'll be healed enough to get by with Motrin.

Hello ggin I am sorry to read that you have to have surgery I know how you feel about having to take med's after as well. Back surgery got me back on them after being clean for many years. I guess if their is an upside to it maybe it would be that you know what your looking at and can make decisions based on the fact that you know you want to stay clean. You could ask the doctor up front to work with you when it comes time to get off. Maybe you can come up with a plan ahead of time that will make this a little easier for you instead of beating yourself up over something that you have no control over. And if you stick to your plan perhaps you will be fine..I guess you need to work out the details with your doctor, let him know what your concerns are I don't know what is available now days but check it out who knows maybe their is an some other way of dealing with it..I hope all goes well for you and that your operation is a success...a-wakan
