My daughter is getting to the point  ,she copes
with everyday life with the help of xanax!
She really thinks it is a fix to most  ill's!
she smokes weed also.I'am so worried she's
going to die in her sleep! as she will take one or
two bars to go to sleep. or one to cope with her
child and just events of the day!
I told her she going to hate them as much as she loves
them soon! Idon't know how to help!!

I've read everywhere that a xanax detox is 0.25mg every week or so.  It is really slow and deliberate.  I quit once before when I was on a high dose of methadone, but this time the methadone does not have me nodding or anything.  I would take my bars and break them into 4 pieces. I'd take a piece SL when I got the shakes, and it worked until I quit for a month or so.  I take all my benzo's sublingual.  They work quicker.

Read this article. This is what I plan on trying. I am on a much lower dosing than you, about .75 to 1 Mg a day, but even the smallest reduction causes withdrawal symptoms. I know what your going through. You need to get on to a longer acting benzo like Klonopin or Valium, supplemented with Tegretol. The article explains everything.

i've been on one or another benzo for 21 years.  xanax is the current benzo.  i'm asthmatic and ptsd, with a personality disorder.  the doctor is trying to lower my dosage.  it scares the hell out of me.  i am a nurse also.  in my 3rd rehab, i had a heart attack when they took me off of the benzo's.  i was in rehab to get completely clean.  they replaced xanax with a sri and two neuroleptics and trazadone and something else i cannot remember.  i was an iv drug user of opiates.  i am on methadone for the 2nd time.  i can talk to this doctor with success i think.  it will last for a couple of months until the issue resurfaces.  eventually, i'll have to face it.  i have agoriphobia (sic), and i cannot go out of my house without the use of some benzo.  the xanax works so fast.  that is good when i have an asthma attack.  i do not misuse it.  i have tolerance.
recently, i dropped from 2mg every 6 hr, to 2mg every 4 hr.  i've done well.  now the nurse wants to drop me to 2mg 3 times a day and next week 2mg twice a day.  i'll see the doctor first.
i cannot do that.  the risk of seizures and another heart attack is too strong for her to drop me so fast.  i do not understand her motivation, other than her son being an addict also.  any suggestions for getting off benzo's.  i've tried r.e.t. therapy and everything i can get my hands on.  any suggestions would be appreciated.

THERE IS NO OTHER ADVICE BUT CALL HRS FOR THE CHILD SAFETY.I am a pediatric nurse and oh the torment of the loved ones who knew but didn't want to turn in there sick family member with a helpless child.  Then in the hospital with a baby injured so badly and knowing you could prevented it well that will really put the life long guilt on you.. I see so many children who have brain stem injury from shaking and now I see them 5 years or so later and they are blind deaf, paralyzed on one side, other ones with busted stomachs from a puch like the 2 month old last week all are drug related I could go on and on and on.. Oh the one the poor dog ate the drug and died a horrible death... You know I have been an addict thank god I had a mother who would not put up with it I had many arrest as a teen thank god or I would not be a nurse..No felonys.. You may love the person using and they will say they hate you I know I did but make the call...Show your little one you  care Because they grow and will remember you didn't do anything to take them out of hell...

daughters things are not good she has used cocaine
off she is using again!  she was high the whole time I was
She was recently in a car accident and has alot pain But
I've been thur this powder thing with her before and it  appears to be in full swing  I had my grandson the part of
his now she has him back  and is using both drugs I;am
all the signs are very little food in the house ,Her coping
skills are nil' my daughter went off when I said I was really
worried about her and my grandson [he had a burn on his
back [that she said happened at the babysitters ] and since
I tried to talk to her about perhaps ,she needs help ,she won't  talk to me said she,ll take care of him ! The fact that
she did'nt care that !saw her high lets me know she in deep
I told her I at least respected her when she made sure he was safe but that does seem to be a priorty any more .

Tell your daughter to go on benzo.com and she can see all the people who are on this stuff and see what we are going through. I was on xanax for five years and i made up alot to stay on them , but now i'm four weeks off and it has been hell.  Go to that web site and you will read how all the people are hook and trying to get off.  Good luck with her

Xanax does smooth out the rough edges.  And yes, your daughter wil become addicted to them.  But I don't know that there is anything you can do since she is an adult.  If she gets so bad that she is neglecting her child then you may be able to step in and get custody but that would be an ugly ordeal.

She isn't going to die from one or two unless she is mixing them with other depressant drugs or alcohol.

I know it's hard to watch a child self destruct.  I put my parents through hell. But unless she does something illegal like Noelle Bush or harms herself, it's impossible to get her into a rehab because it doesn't sound like she's going to listen to you.  Don't blame yourself.  It's not your fault. Just stick to your guns and tell her what you see her doing to herself and at some point she may come to you for help.
