Oxycontin Withdrawal

I take 20 mg of oxycontin morning and night. I use oxycodone twice a day 5/325. I have chronic pain. Severe arthritis, fibromyalgia, senior citizen, unemployed.

I am ready to stop taking oxycontin.  I've used them for about a year and a half. I had exhaustion and left my job. I've had two knee replacements.  I am ready to return to the workforce. I hope half-time. Money is an issue and my husband is ill with Alzheimer's. He is in LTC at this time.

I have not abused this medication. I forget to take the oxycodone. Often, I will be experiencing pain and will then recall I haven't taken any at all that day.  I am searching for employment.  How long will these drugs show up in a tox screen?

I really wish to be symptom free in a week/or two.  Is that realistic?  I take a lot of medication for my joints. I've had many surgeries due to bone on bone in my knees.  When can I begin the process?

Should I stop the a.m. and take the p.m. for a while?  Or should I take the a.m. and not the p.m.   Should I stop the oxycontin and the percecet at the same time?

I really appreciate your insight!  Luluisblueblue

Thank you for your comments.  I am relieved to know that it's ok for a tox screen to show oxycontin when prescribed by a physician.  Does anyone suffer from chronic pain.  I started having surgeries in my thirties due to bone on bone.  I've had several procedures on my feet. My hands are horribly arthritic even though no close women or men have had symptoms.  Has anyone had hand joint replacement?  I am discouraged and I wonder if I will have any relief even with joint replacement in my hands should I decide to do it.  Thanks again. I've never used a forum like this so it's all new to me.

It will take more than a week. Withdrawals last about a week and then the side affects start. It's best to talk to you dr because going cold turkey is rough.

hello and welcome. have you spoken with your doctor about your desire to stop the oxys? he can give you a taper schedule and reduce the mgs of pills he gives you and when you take them  when you don't take the oxys do you feel any withdrawal
symptoms? flu like symptoms?
as long as you have scripts it doesn't matter if it shows in your tox screen.
