On or Off Oxcys

I am currently taking 4 40's per day, I am reaching a point where they are not taking care of the pain, lower back disks, should I ask for an increase in medication, or get off and deal with the pain?

Just my 2 cents worth: If 4 Oxy40's aren't relieving the pain, how are you going to handle the pain with no meds? The pain could mean either or both of these: The pain from your back condition has actually increased, and/or you've developed the inevitable tolerance to the Oxy. Everyone who takes opiates such as Oxy develops tolerance over time. You can take more Oxy or switch to another time-release pain med such as MS-Contin (morphine) or the Duragesic transdermal patch (fentenyl). Many people say the Duragesic patch provides excellent relief. Good luck to you.

I started with 1x 40mg oxycontin two times a day for 80 mg total. Now , a little over 3 years later I take 1 80mg and 1 40 mg 3 times a day for a total of  360 mg a day. Also I take between 20mg and 40 mg a day of IR for breakthrough pain. So I understand how you feel like the pain relievers are not working!  If you increase the amount slowly and with the doctor
