Percocet and Ambien Addiction

Question

Myt hubby is taking large amounts of Percocet and Ambien CR. He runs out of the percs in 4 days and is buying them off the street. He is taking large quantities of this. If he can not get Percs, he takes ANYTHING he can get his hands on. Same with the Ambien CR. He runs out of his prescription before he can get it refilled and is buying them off the street. He will not go for help and it is 3 years now and he is crunching about 5-10 percs and 2 ambien a day. Can someone explain to me what the affects of this combo will be and what damange is being done. I am at my wits end. Maybe if I can tell him the damage he has done, it will get him to go for help! He has overdosed 5 times in the last two years and they have been bad. I am afraid one day I am going to find him dead or he is going to have organ failure. Can someone please help and answer my questions. Thank you!

Cranberry~   Until HE wants to go or reaches out,there's not much you can do. He's on 
a downhill course where stepping into hell would be a step up . 

5 overdoses. No wonder you're scared. Tramahaters' advice was really the best at this point: AlAnon!

Honey, I used to abuse both meds at the same time.  I even ODd and had to get my stomach pumped in the ER and went to ICU for 3 days.  DID NOT STOP ME!  That's just part of the story.  15 years worth of stuff like that but until I was ready, nothing mattered.  Not my kids, not my husband, not my parents....NOBODY!  It's so sad to me to hear that someone is in the shape he and I have been in, but it happens.  

Have you been to AlAnon?  You may just have to concentrate on yourself until he hits rock bottom.  Maybe you leaving him would be that bottom?

The thing about the percocet is all the tylenol in them and that will eat up his liver. If he has had 5 overdoses. Tell him exactly what you told us that your scared your going to find him dead. Keep at him about getting help. Tell him you love him and understand but he has got to get help. Tell him if he loves you that he would get help. Tell him you would do the same for him. Do you have kids. Maybe he will do it for them.
