Percoset

What are the addiction possibilities of percoset.  Is there a difference between mental and physical addiction?  How does percoset compare to marajuana or alcohol?

tjaz, welcome to the forum...if I might offer some advice (and you'll get plenty here) you might want to start a new topic since this one was originally started 8 years ago..

You have come to the right place and will find help here.

I need help.  I have been using pills for about a year and a half consistantly and it is so hard to stop.  I'll take anything from Vic's to Oxy's really whatever I can get at the time.  It ***** b/c I have to take so many now to even feel them and it's becoming so expensive and me and my bf are fighting over this all of the time.  I really want to quit but it's so hard and I guess part of me is going to miss the high and relief I get from them.  I guess I'm just looking for some support and to hear how other people have quit.  All I can say is this ***** and I wish I never started taking them in the first place.

No.  Not to my knoweledge.  Most doctors offices run background checks, hence my blunt response.  If no background is done, it may be possible.

This is to sandi and chad. This is my first time speaking out
about my problem with the law and "pain-meds" im in the DF pros
program for scipt forgery. In my case i got lucky, 7 days in jail
$1000 signatue bond and faced 3 years on a felony forgery charge this was the first time i had ever been arrested for anything serious. The cops came to my house after i passed the phoney script. Ironicly the same day i was able to get the perc's ligit from my regular doctor and to top it off i was not abusing them at the time. I had real pain with 2 broke ribs. The lucky part is
that i got a good lawyer & where i live, i won't say where but they treat this type of thing like bank robery and it's not a small town.Anyway mabie the DA just had somthing up her ass or somthing, because until the last second i though i was going to do at least 6 mo. The DF pros program is only available to people who do not have any prior felony convictions, but This whole thing is still part of my life i still have alot of community service hr's to do and i can't finish those off right now, because im having nee surgery any day. Can anyone say "red flag" i have a weird feeling that my past mistake is some how in my medical charts because my surgen is a real ****-head about giving me med's. Since i was told that i needed open nee surgery iv'e been on and off pain meds for about 3-4 month's mostly "on" and i do need them. just not bad enough to go that **** again. I love the feeling as well and i mean love i use to drink alot and now i could care less about it, just give me some perk's or pure ox and lot's of juice and im in heaven. My wife loves it because i was drinking to much and wasn't paying enough attention to her and some other things, and now im back to my old compulsive ways. That's a good thing belive me. I know im playing with danger but from reading alot of the comments on this site i know i have not done as much as some.Im not saying i wouldn't i just hope i can continue taking my "happy pills" as long as i really need them and am able to stop when i don't.Anyway good luck this wasn't intended to be advice , just wanted to share some of my feelings with everyone Thanks.

I was in the local VA Hospital.  I can't complain though because it was absolutely free care except for the $2 charge for each prescription.  In reality, I think I've experienced more pain in dealing with all of those bills you get when you go to a regular hospital!  I'm still getting bills from two years ago and have no clue as to what they are for.  Now I'm being sued!

You brought up something that I was thinking about myself. "the bad list"  I was busted after falsifying a presription and possesion of a controlled substance a few years ago.
In August, I was in the hospital for kidney stones(passed nine of them)in severe pain. The doctor seemed reluctant to give me pain meds. Finally, after going into shock, I was given morphine. I did suffer a lot more pain than I thought I should have and by the time I got the shot it did little more than keep me from coming out of the bed. I got maybe four shots in five days but had to beg for it. All of this experience made me wonder if I was on some kind of list in the computer....

re: the bad list ...

I live in California, so this is based on this state.

If there was a "bad list" kept, at least, by pharmacies, I'd certainly be at the top. But I have no problems either at pharmacies or at the doctor. However, I was 86'd from a couple urgent cares about ten years ago, and I know each of those companies maintain computerized patient records. So I know better than to show up there. There may also be a record associated with HMOs that follows you around.

Either J.B. is still using the HMO he used when he was busted (or perhaps they sent for his old charts, which could have comments on them), or he just got the typical ******* MD treating his kidneystones. Your appearance and voacabulary can influence the MDs for or against you. Certainly, long or "radical" hair wouldn't help, nor would any side jokes about drugs. But only JB would know if any of this relates.

Personally, I arrange pain management in advance of any procedure. Fortunately, I have a cool doc right now. I know JB might not have had that luxury.

I almost forgot:
For the first offense, you may or may not have to drug test on demand. I didn't on the first, but had to on the second offense. If they require testing, don't screw around. Stay clean. Don't try to use and then hope they don't ask for a test for a few days. You'll get nailed. AND THEN THE JUDGE WILL BE PISSED. It all escalates from there. I can't tell you how many people flunked out of the residential home program I was in and got sent directly to jail for sometimes quite a lot of time.

This is the thing with the judge: You have no record. You're just a housewife who got hooked by her doctor, and succumbed to the temptation to trick out the pharmacy one time. As long as you're humble, attentive and responsive with the judge, you'll be treated quite well. But as soon as you get caught with a bad test or in some lie to the judge,  YOU ARE SCREWED. The judge will throw you into a completely different category of offender and treat you like a criminal from that point on. It's like this: break the "magic spell" with the judge, and it all turns to ****. Don't risk it. Do everything they say to the letter.

on the first offense, not having anything else on my record, I got 2 years informal probation only. That means no reporting, but just don't break any laws for the next two years.
The second time, I barely avoided jail (4 months). I had to sign up with a very expensive 'electronic house arrest" outfit that kept track of me with a beeper and made sure I did 90 AA meetings in 90 days. I had to stay for 3 months in a residential inhouse facility (a group home, actially). I lived there while I went to work (they never found out) and did the 90 meetings in 90 days thing. It was actually very good for me. Anything less wouldn't have worked.

They will probably want you to participate in some kind of out-patient drug diversion program, probably the 90 meetings in 90 days thing. I doubt if you would have to do the residential thing on the first offense. At the end of the 90 days you'll have to go back to court and show the judge written proof of completion.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: Make sure your lawyer tries to get the judge to agree to expunge your record at the successful completion of your program. That way you won't be left with a record.

But get a good lawyer experienced in this kind of offense. That will make all the difference. AND DON'T TALK TO THE POLICE EXCEPT THROUGH YOUR LAWYER!

I would expect to be arrested. It is, afterall, forgery. But you should be able to do it through your attorney an arrange to voluntarily come in, get , booked and get bail immediately. Arrange the bail ahead of time. Your attorney will know what to do. That way, you'll avoid spending 24 to 48 hours in the county jail, which will be pretty unsavory. So get the bail done first.

Good luck. You'll be OK. just don't do it again!

I have been busted and convicted twice for rx forgery. In my case, they were both "telephonic" forgeries, but forgeries nonetheless. What happens to you (in particular your husband for actually writing it) depends on your criminal record, circumstances, etc. You haven't told us anything about your record. Please do so.

This offense can be prosecuted as a misdemeanor or a felony. It's up to the District Attorney.

I'm going to assume you both have no criminal background and tell you that the chances are very good that your husband, and only possibly you, will be charged with a misdemeanor.
It will probably go like this:
Agree to plead guilty to the misdemeanor. Get no jail time (or time served if they arrest either of you -- which is still a possibility), 2 years of informal probation and some kind of mandated drug treatment participation, at the end of which you'll probably have to return to court with your certificates of completion and present them to the judge. That's it.

But Sandi, don't make it worse by sitting around waiting to get arrested. Retain an attorney now. Contact a bail bondsman and square away the paperwork in advance. If either of you is arrested (and I'm betting that your husband will be -- sorry), the bail will be $5000 per person, up to $10,000 per person. So you'll need 10 percent plus proof of collateral, such as a pink slip -- that kind of thing - for the bail bondsman. Be ready with this stuff so you don't wind up sitting in the county jail over the weekend. It's going to be hard to arrange bail if both of you are locked up. Tell your mom or some close family member so someone will be on the outside looking out for you.

THIS IS IMPORTANT: Secure that attorney, but don't make any statements to the police without your lawyer being present. Just by talking you can give them enough evidence to bust both of you instead of just one of you. Don't tell them ANYTHING. If they come, call your attorney, arrange bail, and KEEP QUIET!!! As it stands, they don't have much on you if you don't hand it to them on a silver platter. Make sure you don't have any drugs in the house that you don't have a legal rx for.
Just remember: THE COPS ARE NOT YOUR FRIEND. THEY DO-NOT-WANT-TO-HELP-YOU -- GOT IT? They'll let you think that if you talk without your lawyer and tell them everything, that somehow you'll both just walk out the door. If they arrest you, they're going to want to convict you of something. Don't be stupid. Speak only through your lawyer.

The big question is, where and when will they arrest you? You certainly don't want to be cuffed in front of the neighbors and your kids and led to a car. But this is quite possible. A criminal attorney (make sure it's a criminal attorney, not your grandma's probate attorney) will know how and when to contact the authorities and make some kind of arrangement so you can voluntarily come in, be booked, and get bail. But if you don't do these things, one day, it could be tomorrow or 2 months from now, there will be "that knock at your door," etc.

Listen, this is the worst it will be - unless your husband has a record. Please tell me he doesn't have any felonies.

I'll look back in for your reply. It's OK, though. You're going to live through this. They won't want any jail time, in any event, but they will want some kind of drug treatment. Your attorney will probably tell you both to start going to AA now and begin collecting signatures as proof of attendance. Take care.

Sounds like your doing everything right, only thing is I have heard that after you get caught there is some kind of list that they put you on and that's a bad list to get on to.  I have heard so many kind of stories like this one.  I too have thought about messing around with my scripts, but it seems they always find out.  Someone told me if you get caught like this all the doctors and pharmacies have you name on a list and everything goes down from there.  Sorry

Hi Tom,
Thankyou so very much for your prompt reply..Neither my husband or I have a felony record..I was arrested as a teenager , but nothing else..Same with my husband..My husband told the doctor that I wrote the script NOT him, I do not want my husband to lose his job.The Dr said he would not press any charges on  me because he felt responsible to a degree, treating me for over  2 yrs & he just kept writting them..There was only 1 prescription involved..The sicking part on my end is that I know all of our township police force including the women who work in the office..We will have to obatin an atty now as per your advice & tell a very close friend about this..Did you ever serve any time in jail? Or where you sent to a rehab ? If so for how long? I have found local NA & AA in the area where you attend their meetings but no stay required, would this be ok? I have been clean now for 3 days & fortunatly the withdraw is not that bad..My mind keeps going to where & how I can obtain & do I call my friend whom I know  has them & pay for them..I have been keeping myself busy & I just keep telling myself I can do this, I did it before & it was worse then..Much worse..My girlfriend (no longer a friend) started taking me to Dr's she knew of in Phila & obtain scripts for her & her husband..Then I started just to try , biggest mistake in my life !!!
I cant express how good it feels to be able to finally talk to someone other then my husband & I am very grateful for everything..Hope you post keep posting...
Thankyou,
Sandi

I have been reading every message & reply here & I am in big trouble..I am an addict. This is the 1st time I have told that to anyone. It feels good to say it but I am also in tears. My problem started many years ago & I was able to get off Percocet by myself. However I broke my ankle in 2 places 4 times in 2 years & have had 4 major surgeries to repair it..I was taking 1 at a time then 2 then 3 & then my doctor switched me to Lorcet 10/650.What a mistake!! I have taken up to 10 at 1 time just for the pain & I am sure for the euphoria...My husband also started using a year ago & now we are both in trouble..My husband stole a script from the doctor ,filled it out & I took it to be filled. The pharmaciest didnt even question it but only had 100 of the 150 it was written for, therefore she contacted the Dr's office (he was away) & faxed them the script just yesterday ..The doctor said he WILL NOT press any charges but said the Pharmacy will & the DEA will be involved...Can you please give me some advice? I have a daughter who will be 4 this month & I do not want to lose her.I do not feel sorry for myself I just need help..If ANYONE could tell me the recourse for this offense I would truly appreciate it..I intend to get help from either my family doctor or a rehab...

Hey Chad , I wish I could tell you different, but after 17 days being clean I used today. I dont know what came over me but I decided to go out and try to find a pill, and guess what? I found one. Well the rest is history, and I start over again tomorrow. To tell you the truth it felt kinda good at first, then I started to feel like I let myself down. Now I just feel like an ******* for even thinking that I wanted or needed any. But at the time it sounded like a good idea. Other than that I have been pretty good. How about you, hows it goin down there in Philly?

Percocet makes you feel a thousand times better, but they seem to be easier to get off of then Pot or Alcohol, maybe it's the psychology of them being controlled.  I know if I could walk into a store and buy Percocet...I would be a dead man in about three years from syrosis of the liver or an overdose.  Marijuana doesn't kill people, chemicals do.

perciset can become very addicting!  each person is different, and the time it takes to become addicted is also different.  i'm not a doctor, just a percoset addict.  take it from me....stay the hell away from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

many people can and do use strong pain meds like percs without developing a drug problem. However, percs are like the oxy's mentioned frequently on this site. The drug oxycodone is an awfully nice high, but, like any opiate, if used long enough, you will get the same addiction probs as any other narcotic. (good stuff, though -- that I can't deny!)
