New to recovery, need an advice

Hi, I've had a vicodin dependency for about a year. It started with a pain condition and turned into an every day use. I took 7.5 mg/day for about 6 months. In the last 3 months my tolerance went up and my dosage is now 40mg/day. I've tried stopping several times with no success. I have not been able to take off work and thus have to continue with my dally routine and performance, which makes it harder to quit. I know if I don't stop now it will only get harder as the tolerance will go up and the the dosage will keep increasing.

Went to a psych. who recommended suboxone. I am skeptical about sub, because I am worried to get addicted to it. Does anyone have experience with suboxone (positive negative)?  I am serious about getting sober and being drug free. I don’t want another  dependency in my life. I am also considering an anti-anxiety instead of suboxone to help manage the first 1-2 weeks.

Any advice will be appreciated.
Peace.

Hi,

Thanks to those who replied and for the worm welcome. Just wanted to give you an update. This is my 4th day clean no subs. All on my own. Doctor just gave me neurontin for a week to help manage anxieties.Today I fell much better the aces and pains are almost gone ( The first 2 day were misery).
Yesterday, I hung out with friends and today I plan to go to dinner.

I feel like life is coming back to me and I can start thinking of my dream of having a baby and a normal family.( When on drugs it was out of the question).
I hope to keep it this way.
Love and piece to all!

Welcome to the forum!  Good for you wanting to kick this habit before it gets any worse, and it will just like you said.  I have no experience w/sub but if you use it for less than 30days your chances of it working for its intended benefits are much higher.  Stick to less than a month and you won't have as many problems coming off of it.  (thats what i've read anyway.)  I have to have shoulder surgery and my use and tolerance is bigger than it's ever been.  Once my surg is done, I plan on using the sub, under the care of a MD that specializes in addiction recovery.  More will reply, esp those who have had experience w/sub.  Keep us posted.

I forgot to metion. I am a small girl about 105 lb. I know the doctors tent to put you on a higher dosage than you usually need. If I decide on suboxone can anyone recommend a dosage for my weight?
Thanks!!!
