Need some suggestions please

  i'm on a duragesic patch (50) and 15 mg morphine for chronic pain. i want to get off but i'm afraid of both...the addiction and the pain from no opiates.  what is going to happen if i quit cold turkey. I've been on this same dose for about 6 months and I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but I'm so tired all day long I could just fall asleep anytime, anywhere.       i m helpless

YOU really should not stop the patch cold turkey... you should work with your doc on a taper down to a 25 patch first. THese are very strong meds and you should really talk to your doctor.. You will need other ways to deal with your pain so best to get a plan together before you stop.

First off, if you were truly helpless, you wouldn't be on here looking for help now would ya? So, lets get the negativity out of your head right now. You will only know the severity or duration of your pain if you get off the opiates. So, the next question becomes this...are you truly ready to get off of these things. If the answer is yes, then let us know and we will help with a taper (which I think is the best for this certain medication...fentanyl is pretty hefty stuff).There's also some help for newbies on my profile page. THe sleep thing might just be from the opiates after prolonged use all htey do is make you sleepy atleast for me they did. Also i quit OC and morphine C T it was very painful but after a week or so all the pain went away but i do not have chronic pain. NOt sure how to help Hope i did though
