You replied to an old post. please start a new thread. It could be helpful to some people. Welcome here. And, if you take them for longer than a month, be sure you are taking them fully informed by reading all about subs on here. sometime we have to have them. they are not a good long-term solution for most for opiate dependency I have learned from people's posts here, and from my current experience with subs. I wish you the best. Marie
I am currently addicted to lortab and finally went to a new doctor that would help me instead of just giveing me more..i seriously want help so i told her the truth about everything..anmyway back to the subject..i have tried Suboxone but i was not prescribed it and i know thats wrong but i had a friend that was taking them ..and theres no way i could have taken a whole 8mg of it at one time ,,i had one 8mg tablet and broke it in 5 pieces..and i took one piece day i thought it was wonderful ..why did he give her such a high dosage?..but thats not my business sorry anyway i am going to get an appointment to try them and my doctor will have to refer me to another doctor because she cannot subscribe them ,,i have medicare and medicaid and as soon as i go i will come back and let you know what my charges are..i used to be really ashamed to even talk about it but i had so many knee surgeries and was even in a wheelchair for 2 years and had to take pain medication and i didnt know that when i tried to stop when i got well that i would be really sick and didnt even realize what it was..and yes i am sure the doctors take advantage of people and insurance companies
When i started on Suboxone in Aug.> it was a study program for adapt. All free. I thank my Lord for that one, but i certainly would have paid whatever. My only thinking on this is, i took 8 mg a day. 4mg a.m. and 4 in the p.m. Your wife may not need as much as she is taking. Then they tapered me off, too fast i must say and the wd's were awful. Anxiety and depression like I never knew there could be. You sound like a great spouse, as my husband is to me.
Your wife will make it. Keep posting and i am glad you found a better dr. TJack
oops. I don't know how I did that twice. My bad.
OK. So it turns out and I am sorry to say that this doctor we went to is (In my opinion) a slimeball. We found a new doctor and to all of you who are unlucky enough to go thru what my wife and I did with locating a doctor, keep looking. The good ones are out there and you can find them on the Suboxone website. You just have to dig a little harder.
I do not want to get in trouble with the owners of the site so I will say that this is only in my opinion and not the website's. Unfortunatly the first doctor we found was thru the same website and I am sure that there are lawyers out there willing enough to try and come after someone for slander. God knows between the doctors, lawyers and the drug companies they have enough money to do it.
My opinion has no expertise to back up what I am saying but the story speaks for itself.
The suboxene has worked wonders and I recomend it highly. Just watch out for doctors who want to take advantage of you when you can't feel much lower than than you feel already.

We have aftercare. A child and family organazation comes out two times a week and she has an intensive care manager that also come out two times a week. There is also her pyschiatrist to monitor meds like prozac and such.
So that is four days a week of outside help. Med. management and of course myself.
I do not like 12 step programs. In the past they have been a breeding ground for addicts to enable other addicts and even her sponsor worked out to be a bad situation. They still are a great thing to do to fill time in the evenings as we can do it together and be around at least some people who are trying to change there lives. When I say breeding ground for addicts to enable other addicts I know that the whole program is not like that and there are quite a few that are serious about there problem but there still are some pretty creeepy people out there latching on to each other. I do not want to be busting on AA and NA they serve a wonderful purpose.
Wgat she needs and we are trying to find is some outpatient therapy during the week to keep her busy.
By the way she is disabled (physicaly and mentaly and approved for SSI) and not working so the days when I am at work are going to be a challenge.
My doctor charged $300 for 1st visit and $150 per week thereafter. But I stayed on Subuxom for 3 days and stopped. There is no reason to be on this for more than a week. After a week your opiate cravings should be gone. Try tapering off the second week and finishing with it.
consider it a very expensive gift.
if it gets her clean, it's worth every penny. and btw - if she's "jonzing" for her Sub, she needs aftercare. she needs meetings and/or counceling. this tells me she has very addictive behavior, so please do not stop the sub (or you'll be back to square one) and she's gotta get additional help.
sorry bud - but you guys want your lives back. and there's a price for that...
God bless..

Curious was the message I sent you of any help regarding infromaton you seemed to be looking for. Please let me now-----NOAH
when you say "First lets get one thing straight, it's my wife not me on suboxone" When I said good luck to you and your wife, I meant just that. It is not just her going through this. Which I shouldnt have to tell you that. I have a fiancee that has been with me for going on 14 yrs now. She stayed with me through my cocaine addiction at age 15-17(going on 10 yrs clean now) and she has continued to stay with me through this pain pill addiction. This has been the hardest thing for her. Which is why I said good luck to you both. It takes alot of support. I HOPE SHE MAKES IT!
my husband is currently on sub therapy also ... to answer your insurance question his prescriptions are also 40.00 for up to a 30 days dosage ( 60 8mgs) and his dr visits are covered under our mental health benefits at 15.00 copay per visit... most insurances have mental health benefits so check to see if your dr is covered with your mental health bens or just call your insurance they will give you the names of drs that are covered... check on the suboxone website and plug in your zip code ... it will list drs that can prescribe sub then call your ins for coverage of those dr s ..... good luck
You are an amazing person. I hope you know that.
You already got your Christmas present--don't worry about the material things.
God Bless you and your family.
First lets get one thing straight. It is my wife not I that is taking the suboxone. Thanks for all of the responses. It was nice to get home from the store and hear some posts about our situation.
I am going to my brothers tonight for a christmas party and he always has plenty of cheese, so I won't have to buy it. 8)
20to 30, 20 mg oxys was not every day. The script would run out pretty quick but she is lucky she did not overdose.
The scripts were perscribed (my insurance covered that) and she did look for it elswhere also. So looking at it from the perspective of what the oxys cost as to getting our life back helps a little but looking for hope that the ordeal is over with and still spending more than I can afford is still much like the previous.
I guess that it is a matter of luck as to what doctor you get and I am getting screwed. I am lucky that there is Suboxone out there to help but the I still have to deal with the addictive behavior. I know that she is now terrified of running out. Not having pills to rely on every day has transferred to the Suboxone and I have to address that right away. (not easy at all)
It is Christmas and I am flat broke from this ordeal. I just hope that it is over soon.
I can only say my opinion. Which is if you can afford this treatment then GREAT! But if it is making things worse at the house, and killing you finacially then I would reccomend either the taper method, which is starting at a certain dose of meds then very slowly tapering the dosage down until after a while the pills are gone and you were at such a low dosgae that the w/d is barley present. Or just do it cold turkey which is brutal, but CAN BE DONE! I wish you and your wife the best! GOD BLESS
...usually the doctor has you do the initial appointment and two immediate follow ups depending on how it goes with the dose. But after two weeks you SHOLUD be on once a month. But there are no rules. Suboxone is a great way for those who have turned medicine into big business to milk you for money. Unless you can find another doctor, there isn't much you can do.
However, you are better off using it for a short term (few weeks) detox. It was how it was originally intended. It is just as addictive as oxy's afterall.
Please check your in box for detailed info.
I think what happens with the Dr's. that charge that high (which everyone that I've tried was just as expensive as the next), is because it's not something that's neccesarily "needed" from an insurance perspective, for example, dental insurance not covering veniers (did I spell that correctly?) because they consider it cosmetic, and non emergent. I am in agreeance with yourself, and IBKleen though because from everything I've read here many people have benefited from Suboxone, and I feel for those who are in need of it, and can't afford it because of the money. Take care, BA...
My sub doctor, wanted me to come in like your wife, but due to distance (220 miles r/t) he allowed me to come to my first visit, a week later and then a month, then 2, then 3.
Try not to see it as a rip off, although I would feel the EXACT same way. It is important to monitor your body when going on the Suboxone. I had blood and urine tests every time I went the first 4 times to make sure my body wasn't having a bad reaction.
32 mgs is high. How does your wife feel? Is she comfortable or are there side effects? I needed a nap for the first month or so I was on (8mgs), but nothing else.
Hope this helps. Some people here only want to throw sarcasm, ie. johnnykelly.
Your lucky,Soboxone/Subutex is available, and moreover you have rthat 500.00 per-week,so be greatful, stop your winning or at least buy some cheese.
Sad. Sad that even Drs have to capitalize at our expense.
I wish you well in the road to freedom. If you figure out the cost of the dope we've used, and the loss we've gone through missing life. It really is a worthwhile investment in your future.
Oh my God!!!! How do you not OD on that much Oxy?

My 6 week program cost $ 4000.00 plus approx. $500.00 for the meds. I started on 16mg a day & eventually wean to 1mg a day the last week & then stop. If I want to go on maitenence it costs $500.00 a month plus I don't know what for the meds. It is expensive & basically what you get over the 6 week program is a nurse to talk with on the phone every day for 4 days & then once a week for the next five weeks unless you are in crisis & need to talk more. They encourage you to do AA or some program. Anyway it beats going through the horrible withdrawal effects of cold turkey.

I am so sorry you are being charged so much..........That is terrible! I started my Sub Doc on Thursday and he was so nice and helpful I didnt have a dime so he let me writ 2 post dated checks and It was $250 for 30 days which includes counsleing for me and my kids everyweekend. Truely a Godsend! I am soo grateful! And he made my script so I dont have to keep getting refills!! My script only cost $20. So yes I think your doc is a ******* and way over charging you!! But like someone else said it will be over soon and its worth it!! Your wifes sobriety and life are priceless! Hang in there you are doing the right thing by helping her!!!
