Suboxene scam?

My wife is on suboxene and has been since last Monday. The doctor charged us $150 for the first visit and the script was $40 with help from my insurance.
The first script for 16 pills lasted her 4 days. Four 8 mg tablets a day just as the dr. prescribed. We went to the doctor Thur. for another appointment and he charged $120 for that visit and the script was another $40.We have another appointment for Monday and that is going to cost another $120 with the script costing me $40 again. This is getting more expensive than the freaking oxys that got her there in the first place!
What I am trying to ask everyone is. How are you guys being charged? It is hard to find doctors who are able to treat using suboxene and it is Saturday with X-mas coming Tuesday so getting live info from a doctor is a  problem.
Is this treatment this expensive or how bad am I getting scammed?
Some one please post back soon. I am getting very upset and I know she needs the treatment.

Good Morning!

I don't know if I would call it a scam, per say, but there are doctors who charge ridiculous amounts of money---because they can. I have a problem with that also.

I did the Suboxone program back in August of this year and my doctor charged $250 for the first visit and $90 a week thereafter. The pills themselves were quite expensive, but my insurance covered a good portion of that. My doctor refused my insurance although I am 10% covered everywhere else I go. I only stayed on the Sub for 16 days and for that I am grateful. I would have had to mortgage my home if I stayed any longer.

You are going to be hard pressed to find a doctor this weekend, but perhaps next Wednesday you can check for other doctors in your area who are certified to prescribe. Go to the Suboxone website and do a search by zip code.

Glad to hear your wife is getting treatment. Did the doctor say how long she will be on it? It is good to arm yourself with all the information you can regarding the treatment.

Good Luck and take care.

Yes. Those were the directions. The doctor said that this might go on for a whole year but the appointments will stretch to once every two weeks and then once a month.
Oxys were much cheaper than this. Not saying she is going back to them. That would mean surtain destruction

That is how we found this doctor. Lots of the others had waiting lists and or charged around the same for the first visit.I did not get as far as a second visit. We just got to the first doctor asap. She was in bad shape.
By the way. The drug works fantastic for w/d and has been a wonder as for cravings and over all general physical condition.

She is on the highest dose and that is a concern. She should only stay on that dose for 3 days, then go down to the dose that is comfortable for her.

My doctor said a year also, but I didn't want to do that. I am not saying that your wife shouldn't. I am just telling you what worked for me.

I will say that if she stays on the program for a year, she will experience withdrawal when she comes off of the Sub. She will need to wean down -- taper-- before she goes off and she will still experience withdrawal. It should not be as severe as the Oxy withdrawal however.

That is why I say do research about the drug. These doctors don't know every darn thing about it and I urge people to be in control of their treatment.

I hope all these posts helped you some this morning.

That is a very high dose to be on.  Most people don't go over 12 mgs a day.  I took Subutex, which is basically the same thing and I started at 16 mg but was off within 21 days and had some withdrawal but not much.  The longer you are on this the harder it is to get off.  What I would suggest is that she take the absolute minimum amount she can to not experience withdrawls.  The drug has a long half life so she might not start to feel anything until the 2nd day off of it.  It's best used as a way to detox not as a maintenance drug as the docs would have you believe.

Thank you all for your comments and keep them coming. What I am really intersted in is if anyone is familiar with the cost of this treament and is there any hope to find a doctor who is not charging this much next week.

I am so sorry you are being charged so much..........That is terrible!  I started my Sub Doc on Thursday and he was so nice and helpful I didnt have a dime so he let me writ 2 post dated checks and It was $250 for 30 days which includes counsleing for me and my kids everyweekend.  Truely a Godsend!  I am soo grateful!  And he made my script so I dont have to keep getting refills!!  My script only cost $20.  So yes I think your doc is a ******* and way over charging you!!  But like someone else said it will be over soon and its worth it!!  Your wifes sobriety and life are priceless!  Hang in there you are doing the right thing by helping her!!!

My 6 week program cost $ 4000.00 plus approx. $500.00 for the meds. I started on 16mg a day & eventually wean to 1mg a day the last week & then stop. If I want to go on maitenence it costs $500.00 a month plus I don't know what for the meds. It is expensive & basically what you get over the 6 week program is a nurse to talk with on the phone every day for 4 days & then once a week for the next five weeks unless you are in crisis & need to talk more. They encourage you to do AA or some program. Anyway it beats going through the horrible withdrawal effects of cold turkey.

Sad. Sad that even Drs have to capitalize at our expense.
I wish you well in the road to freedom. If you figure out the cost of the dope we've used, and the loss we've gone through missing life. It really is a worthwhile investment in your future.

My sub doctor, wanted me to come in like your wife,  but due to distance (220 miles r/t) he allowed me to come to my first visit, a week later and then a month, then 2, then 3.

Try not to see it as a rip off, although I would feel the EXACT same way.  It is important to monitor your body when going on the Suboxone.  I had blood and urine tests every time I went the first 4 times to make sure my body wasn't having a bad reaction.

32 mgs is high.  How does your wife feel?  Is she comfortable or are there side effects?  I needed a nap for the first month or so I was on (8mgs), but nothing else.

Hope this helps.  Some people here only want to throw sarcasm, ie. johnnykelly.
