Suboxone Really Does Help

I to was on Methadone for 8 years and finally had enough of it.Get up at 5:00 am  every moring to drive to the clinic to get my dose. At times i felt dirty even though I was not using anything at all. But the voice in my body told me that this Methadone is just a cover up and n ot really helping me at all except for my sickness from Opiod dependency.
I sa the TV show Dateline and they did a piece on Subone and there were Herion addicts taking it and feeling great and habe their lives back together. So 33 days later I was indused with Suboxone. I prayed and prayed for the Lord to leading me to this. At the time it was as I was sent a gift from the Heavens above. The following July I had to have foot surgery due to tumors of Dupuytren's Contacture Disease. My small finger on my left hand was drawed inward and frozen there. I went to what I was told was the best Dr for this type of surgery.Post surgery he reinlists back into the Army and there I was with no follow up what so ever. The next November I had to remove 3 tumors due to Dupuytren's Disease. All this time I was going on and off my Suboxone because of the severity of the pain.2 hands and 2 more surgeries I was back physically dependent on Oxycodone. After 3 weeks of this **** I flushed 60 pills down the toilet and went to see a Dr whose speciallty is Suboxone. So now I am back on it but am in a lot pf pain.Which brings me to the question as well. Will Suboxone treatments help my pain. I am goign back to the Dr on the 12th and I am either going back onto a narcotic till the pain subsides or I am asking him for the amount of Suboxone needed to help with my pain.

If you have been on much meth at all for 8 years your receptors are so down regulated that it may be awhile before sub is effective for the pain. Thats the problem with it working for me for pain. Wasnt the subs fault - - - I was too high!

Hi Phil,

In reference to your question about Suboxone's effectiveness in treating pain, I've got to say that for me at least, Suboxone didn't help with pain very much at all. Supposedly one of the uses of Suboxone is treatment of pain, but if you have severe pain, you'll probably find that the Suboxone won't help much if at all.

That being said, if you are going to be on a maintenance medication, Suboxone IMO is a much better choice than Methadone simply because with Suboxone I was able to think clearly, make good decisions, etc. There are still plenty of downsides to Suboxone though (lack of sex drive being a big one for me), but if you are in a situation where you just want to get control of your life back, it's a great choice.
