Starting on Suboxone

Because I have a very curious nature and Suboxone is a main topic of conversation I decided to see for myself how difficult it is to get started on a Suboxone treatment program........
This morning I called a doctor that I found in a Search on my computer in my area a doctors who dealt with Suboxone.......
I found five in a close area to my home.......the first one I called told me I had to be seeing a Therapist first and get a referral the second I called told me to call my Blue Cross to see if this particluar doctor was covered....I called and his name was on the active list for my Blue Cross then they told me to ask them if Suboxone was covered also with my Blue Cross at the Pharmacy.....I did that as well and it is but has a $40 co-pay.........
I told the office this and they scheduled me an appointment for tomorrow morning at 8:30 but they also told me I would be drug tested and if they found cocaine or pot in my drug test the doctor would not perscribe Suboxone they said they will treat patients in trouble with opiate narcotic pain pills or even Heroin but would not treat cocaine or pot patients........
I am going to go in so that I know the exact procedure and how it is handled.......

So to all of you out there who have been thinking about using Suboxone and have insurance it does not seem to be a problem at all.......I just called this morning and with in 24 hours I will have a perscription of Suboxone.......I'll see how it goes in the morning........

Will I'm located in Cambridge Ohio and need to find a doctor that will accept my Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama insurance. I'm willing to drive a couple of hours away but would obviously like to find the closest doctor that accepts my insurance as possible. I really need this help..

I am not sure where anyone is from but man you all need to come where I am and go to the doctor I use. Beachtowel if you wanted research I take suboxone I could give you plenty of info. I see my doctor every week, I take a Ua and as we have my appointment he checks to make sure I am clean. We then discuss how I am feeling and everything. The last appointment I had he prescribed me medicine to help me have a bowl movement and klonapine to help me sleep. I could not ask for a better doctor and I am not even being treated like an addict.

I also have BCBS and I need to find a doctor somewhere near me that will accept this insurance. Is there any way I can get you to tell me what your doctors name is or get a phone number?

I hear that medicaid is notorious for cutting patients off who get suboxone here in NYC a few months in. Something to watch out for if you're in the 5 boroughs. I've run into a few desperate suboxone patients at the doctor's office who were having trouble getting their refill around the third month.

When I went on it, I found a dr. he charged me 50 bucks for the appt. because he didn't take my insurance.
He gave me the first dose, made me sit there a half hour.  I left after that half hour with a prescription for 60, filled it under my insurance.  I paid 10 bucks.
We spoke inthe phone about how I was doing a few times after that but I never saw him again.

In my area (northeastern, PA.) most of the suboxone doctors DO NOT accept insurance.  It's all a cash business.  It was $250 for the initial visit and then $85 a month from there on.  You get a urine test every month and my Dr. told me he doesn't care about pot, but cocaine and benzos are a no no.  They give you one chance and if you come up positive again, you are off the program with a referral to a different doctor.  After 5 clean urines in a row, they give you a slip to get tested at a hospital for free and then you pay $75 for your visit.

It's always interesting around here... my co-pay is also 40 bucks on the sub probably because of the high cost of it...the littler ones are 10

Badger insurance! I love it! I just found out we're being offered an insurance called "MyBunny". It sucks, but I'm going to switch to it just for the name, so I can say I get my insurance from "My Bunny!"

Not to digress (but I will), but as funny as that is to look back on, it was one of the scariest experiences of my life. Any fighting I may have known went right out the window when I realized the three drunk/high guys demanding my stuff meant it when they said they really didn't care what happened to them, if they were arrested, killed, hurt, it didn't matter to them.
I found out after from the others there that "those guys" robbing first timers was sort of a right of passage into the place. After that, things went smoothly. I got invited right down to sit and a cuppa tea to "soothe my nerves."
I felt terrible for them when the police marched their line across Tompkins a few years later to clear them all out.

my insurance is called Badger Care, which I got last month when my beautiful daughter was born.  It's a state insurance like medicade or however it's spelled and now all my meds only cost 1$ (because I'm male) and my appointments don't have a co-pay.  Which is sweet because I paid $12 a day for methadone (18 months) plus $200 just to get in.

But you said that someone else will be going to the appt??  Are they using your insurance??  Isn't that fraud?? Your post really did not address the things i said.

I am assuming you gave them the person that IS going to take the sub their insurance info not yours.
I get the point you are trying to make here.. that is easy to get into a Sub doc. that may have been the case today. But that doc's office is not in every city.. Sub docs differ depending on where you live.  The one I was able to get into when I wanted help didn't take insurance and this was a guy who ran a family practice walk in clinic. even if he was your PCP he didn't take insurance for drug treatment. And luckily we had the cash to do it. Not everyone is that fortunate, either they don't have insurance or are low income and can't afford the few hundred dollars for treatment. Or all the docs in their area are at the 100 patient limit for treatment, (which is another reason i think less people should do maitenece with this stuff it prevents other from getting in to get help)

This reminds me of the time I decided to research the homeless situation for a story in Tompkins Square Park in NYC by going down there and "Moving in" with the homeless for a few days (back in the early 80's, I was 19?! they had a "tent city" there.)

Lets just say I ended up with my bag, money, shoes, and pants stolen...but I met some very nice people otherwise!!! :)

i understand your point, but why did you put "starting on sub" as your topic,,What are we all suppose to think??
I am sure where you live it is great, unfortunitly it is not like that everywhere..really you just should of put your topic for what is really was, and none of this would have even continued!

Great point made.  For some it is very easy to find someone.  I've heard horror stories of no docs in the area but I have a few choices.  Unfortunately the doctor who seems to have the philsophy closest to mine doesn't take insurance but $100 a month even if I had to pay cash is way less than I was spending on pills.

this is all so confusing. you said YOU were going in to get the script for sub and now youre saying someone else is? bad idea even if it is someone else, sub is only good (IMO) for short term use, not for long term so you can become addicted to it.

Yes they did and I told them yes to heavy narcotic pain pill use...........

then they infomed me that your drug tested and if street drugs are found in your system the doctor will ask you to leave......street drugs meaning speed, pot, and cocaine........
