How long will this last?

OK...so here it goes. In 2007 I started taking Methadone every once in a while. (maybe about once a week to get that extra boost of energy to get some stuff done) Then it became more and more and I eventually got dependent on it. In 2010 I stopped the Methadone for about 5 days and switched to Suboxone. Feb 1st I quit taking suboxone and started taking hydrocodone. Today is day 2 without the pills and I feel like total crap. I took a tramadol yesterday and today and it eased the withdrawal some. Should I take tramadol for about a week or should I just not take it at all. I know that it too is addictive but wasn't sure if I would be dependent on it after a week. I am afraid that it is just going to prolong my withdrawal and make it last longer. Has anyone been through a similar situation that can give me some input?

HI your best bet is to stop taking the pills altogether the tram is only going to prolong your withdrawal and you take the chance of becoming addicted to it also time to just clean out the medicine cabinet flush it all in a week you will feel a lot better chance of the methadone still messing with you are slim it will be the hydros and thats a 4 or 5 day detox then slowly get better your habit was significant and will take a wile to feel better from hang in there post often for support good luck and God bless........Gnarly

the trams will just prolong your withdrawal. stay hydrated, take hot baths with epsom salts or hot showers. immodium for stomach issues, keep moving around, keep yourself busy, you can do this.the chains and bondage of addiction can be broken.
have you checked into any counseling and/or support groups?
keep the faith.
sending hope and encouragement

When i started taking methadone i knew nothing about it. I didn't know how hard it was going to be to get off of it. It was agonizing for me. Not knowing Suboxone had the same withdrawal effect I started taking it. I was on it for a year and a half and decided it was time. The withdrawal was so horrible that I just couldn't hack it. So, I started taking hydrocodone. it's been 2 months since stopping suboxone. I am ready to be DONE with it all. I am to the point now that I don't even like how the pills make me feel anymore. I am ready to be normal again. They just make me groggy and lazy.

Hello there -

I was on 180mgs. of oxycotin when I decided to go into rehab to see if my pain had changed and I could do without the meds. They gave me suboxone and I slept for the first five days. When I left several days later, I thought I was detoxed and done. They gave me no information, so I didn't know any better. After a day, I began to get sick with stomach cramps and I checked into a well known hospital because I thought there had to be something wrong. By then I was detoxed but I didn't know anything since I had never gone through it before. They sent me home with a prescription for suboxone and I began seeing a sub doctor. Months later I logged onto medhlelp, only to find out that suboxone was an opiod. I was so-o upset that rehab had used one narcotic to get me off another. I began to cut down by sub dose slowly but the process didn't work out for me. I ended up taking methadone to get off sub. I was on methadone for @ a year and a half, 10 mg. a day, then I decided enough was enough. I had to get off that as well. I just stopped, not knowing what to expect. Oddly enough, nothing happened. I never got sick or cramped - nothing. I was very, very fortunate! I'm glad it's over. My back is still a mess and it hurts - but I have made my choice to cope, at least for the time being. I sincerely wish the best for you. Medhelp has educated and supported me ... I hope you will keep coming back. I have always found that when you reach out here, you will always find someone reaching back!                    Take care ...

You have gone from meth to sub to vikes to tram. I think that u realize you have a problem and need to just stop changing meds and stop. You are going to have wd regardless of what you switch to and your going to save.yourself alot of time and pain by just stopping now. Vikes or tram will be a hell of a lot easier than quitting methadone and even sub but u don't want to take those too long. The sickness will only last 3-4 days and then minor wds for a few more days. Just get it over with and you'll be free of your addiction and the pill bottle. Good luck!

Hello,

Well all I can give you is my advise. At the end of today it will be 6 days clean. Everyone is different and have to do what works for them. I took a few Tramadol the week before I started and took less norcos and took less and less each day then on Sunday went cold turkey and it seemed to really help me. Today I feel awesome. And drink a lot of water too. I have been taken my shower right before bed and drinking a tea that helps you sleep. Good luck to you!!

Thanks T
