WE ARE NOT DOCTORS

I am reminding everyone we are not doctors there is not a single one of us that has enough knowledge of the members medical history or a medical licence to be advising ANY OTHER MEMBERS as to whether they should increase and decrease there meds they are on exspecally suboxone .It is absolutely fine to advice a member that they might want to discuss with there doctor raising or lowering the does buut that is it !!!! They need to be over seen by there doctor .There doctor will be able to determine by there symptoms what the problem might be and take the necessary steps . .It is great that we have such a wonderful supportive forum but we still have to leave medical decisions up the doctors.

To me it all seems somewhat biased.  I mean everyone who comes to this forum I'm sure has enough common sense to know that we aren't doctors.  Heck, a lot of complaints from people are they would like some advice because their doctor isn't helping them.  The reason I say it is biased is because since I've been to this board I've seen plenty of people share how they tapered and it even went as far as someone was telling someone how to taper with hydrocodone (I believe that was the medication) and telling them a good way to the T!  Meaning, for example...they said something like "after 4 days go down another half a pill...then another 4 days another half a pill" and so on and there was never anything said...why?  Because it wasn't Suboxone.  There isn't a single Suboxone user who would ever recommend someone use Suboxone if this is their first time trying to get clean.  Even those who have successfully used Suboxone wouldn't do that.  It just all seems silly to me.  I think it should just be in the rules of the forum reminding all members that any reply they may receive and any advice they may get are not from doctors.  Seriously....we can go through just about any post and come up with something that should be deleted due to these rules....and we don't want that.

Look...I know no one is going to admit that the reason it was said was because it was Suboxone and no one needs to because it's pretty obvious to me.  Like I said, I've seen MANY times where other medications were involved and people were giving advice on how to taper and NOTHING was said.

Instead of having a rule to tell people not to post anything where they are describing a way of tapering that worked for them, we just need to have it stated in the rules for new posters to always make sure they check with their doctor before taking any of this advice.  Heck, I'm fine with adding it to my own posts after giving advice that I'm not a doctor, but I'm thinking the one who made the post kinda already knows this.  Right?  If you're going to be this picky about people giving taper advice make sure you do it across the board...but seriously I think you're just causing more work on your end and in the long run it will just end up weeding out a lot of good advice from a lot of experienced people.

Of course not only am I not a doctor, but I'm not a forum moderator either.....just a "user", so what would I know?

i don't know what this Bump thing is all about. Anyone care to explain or is this only for the elite group? I usually don't post on sub or any other tappering Why? I have no experience with it.
To mtgoat911 The answer is Yes it is done all the time. But if you don't want people in you business go private.
I don't think this is a forum issue ( i could be wrong ) I believe there may be a select few who like to spread their knowledge a little to far. OK So rather rock and roll the site PM those individuals and help them get back on track.
Good Post...clear, clean and. to the point
Maybe every response could begin with My Experience Is********

avis wasnt saying anything about not sharing our experiences.  She was just simply stating that we shouldnt be telling someone to either increase or decrease their doseage.

I also completely agree that we are not doctors and should not give medical advice. But I agree sharing your taper that worked for you especially in regards to meds such as sub and methadone is very helpful. Lets be honest, most methadone clinics and sub doctors will keep giving out meds as long as the money keeps coming. As a patient you have to be your own advocate so getting advice and experience from others can be helpful

I'm going to respectfully disagree to a certain extent. Anyone who has been on Sub and has had experience with Sub Doctors, knows that many (most) of these doctors have very little knowledge about the Sub they're prescribing. Any members that make recommendations regarding doses, should only come from experience and a sharing of our own personal experience. People should be aware we are not doctors and what we say is not law, only a sharing of our own experiences. People should take this info with a grain of salt and take their newly found information to their doctors with questions. I think we will do each other a dis-service by not sharing what we know and the doctors don't know.
