When Will I Feel Better?

How am I supposed to feel on day 2 of suboxone? (I took on avg. 200 mg./day oxycodone for a few years).

I slept the same as always last night; very well...today I am going through a myriad of different sensations/feelings/thoughts. I am like a zombie. Very out of it. But  I am not sick.

I am on a 21-day schedule. Then I will be off the sub as well.

But when will I feel better?

I did the 21 day taper, it took about 3 days until I realized I was getting a buzz from subs. It builds in your system and definitely has a motionsickness feel, or I did. How much sub are you taking?

I also want to comment that the average length of a sub program is about 6-12 months, and that's for many good reasons.  While some people DO successfully complete a "fast track" type program for detox purposes only, that's really not how sub is designed to optimally work.

It takes about 2 weeks JUST for your opiate receptors to adjust from the full agonist to the partial agonist.  The fast track kind of program doesn't allow for a gradual taper which is so important, as is a stabilization period in between (usually at least about 2 wks in between dosage reductions).  You're going to be decreasing quite quickly, which may be very very difficult.  To be honest, you could have done that with the Oxy, probably easier in fact.

Just for your information.  I'm not sure if this is the info you're getting from the doc, or if you have requested this fast a program.  Just want you to have all of the info you need.

Sounds like your dose may be too high, which is very possible, it's common to see people on doses MUCH higher than needed.

What dose are you on?

There is definitely also a little bit of an adjustment period.  If the sub was inducted properly, and the dose is appropriate, you should feel "normal", not high, not medicated, and w/d wise, you could experience some very mild w/ds for about a week after the switch as your body adjusts, but it should be VERY tolerable (as in barely noticeable).  Most people don't have any.

I would talk with your sub doc and ask if you can try a slightly lower dose.

Hey, you will feel better in a couple days, if your not already. I'm on Suboxone, and have been for 2 years. I was addicted to the same thing & methadone before I got on Suboxone. The Suboxone helped me right away. You don't feel high or anything, but you don't withdrawal either. Hope you have a great journey! Just keep your head up, and don't have anything around you that will tempt you. I will pray for you!
