Why Stop Taking Opiates?

Here is my problem, I am being treated with oxycontin for about four years now for an old back injury by my doctor. I find that I have much more energy more focused and more open towards others. This is truly not denial, I have been promoted to a senior management position on the job, I have written a software program, which I was able to market and sell for a lot of money. It only becomes a problem when I run out. I realized I had a problem when I came up short one month and I could not function and had your classic symptoms. To be total honest I do not want to quit but refuse to go to the streets and spend my hard earned money on drugs. What do I do?

We all know what you are saying and yes sobriety is scary for you as it was for all of us but i have to tell you sobriety is amazing.  It takes strength and determination and alot of work but it is so worth it.  How many do you take a day?

This post sounds familiar, did you post a similar queation a few weeks ago? I'll say what I said then , Who's telling you ya have to stop? It sounds like you are trying to convince yourself that taking dope everyday in a controlled way is ok and it sounds like it is ok, for now. I functioned well on dope, especially methadone in the early years but then it turned on me. This takes longer for some people and who knows how long dope could work for you. Sooner or later oxy or whatever dope you take won't work well and that's when you really need to re-evaluate. all best

The first three years it was one 325mg percocet a day, than it went to 3 a day than after the pain would not subside he gave me the a 215 blue pill which I think is 30 mg, in the beginning of the month I will take two in the morning, three at lunch and one in the evening. The stupid part is that in the middle of the month when I get low, I can get away with a half in the morning and one in the evening. The thing that helps me threw it is knowing that I am only a few days away from my next refill. That also helps mentally, there was one time he went on vacation and I did not know when he was coming back and it was the worst because I did not know when I was getting my next script I think that was worse the withdrawal. I really do want to stop and have a doctors appt in the morning to help me through this but again I am afraid that more of me does not want to stop, but I know I have two. I have a good life and have been very fortunate so why wait to hit rock bottom to realize there is an issue!

If you want to keep your good life you need to get off these pills now.  If you dont you will go down and it is a lonely road.  These pills can and do kill people.  Have you thought about talking with a counselor or therapist?

hummm. kinda of scary to watch one drop to bottom. you never know how far your bottom might be, some times its death, other times it jail, loss of job, wife/husband, who knows, not fun to find out! ...IMO you have to be ready or you will not make it. some have to hit bottom or they will not quit.
