Will it really take me 6 months to detox off 11 mg of Methadone?

Hi I am currently 39 weeks pregnant on 11 mg of Methadone, since I am having my baby very soon I've been thinking of what is to come next with my Methadone treatment, I would like to be totally off of it, the drs would not let me get off of the Methadone because of the pregnancy and how harmful it can be to my child, which is most important. Just a little history I used 30 mg Oxycodone recreationally for about 3 yrs. taking about 2-5 30 mg pills a day the last 6 mnths until I got on Suboxone treatment which is when I found out I was pregnant shortly after starting. I decided I wanted to taper off the Suboxone in hopes of being totally off of it before I delivered. I got down to 2 mgs with my Dr but could no longer afford him so as a last resort I went to the Methadone clinic at 33 weeks pregnant and have been on an 11 mg dose ever since.. and been told it's not safe for my baby to taper all the way off of it while pregnant.. so now that I am having my baby soon I want to taper totally off of the Methadone, but will it be too hard to handle as a new 1st time mom and coming off this? Does it really take 6 months??! Any comments or stories are so very appreciated thankyou!

Hi-  I think the suggested taper is appropriate for a new Mom or anyone.  Slow and small wins the race here.  Please do this under the direction of a doctor.

Congratualations in advance!!

once the baby is born you can start to detox. 6 months from 11 mgs that seems much to long. it is supposed to be a slow taper, but that is ridiculous. not so sure the tapering down even matters much. some people taper all the way down and stay on 1 mg for months and when they come off they still have bad withdrawals. you havents been on it that long. i would definitely go quicker then they want you to. remember they are in it to make money so of course they want you to stay on it longer. my husband went cold turkey from 20 mg yes he was very sick but he was on it for 10 yrs and at the highest of 100 mg.
sending hugs and blessings
