addicted to painkillers

I was originally prescribed fuericets and lortab if my migraines got bad enough almost 6 years ago. From there, my meds changed eventually to me taking adderall, valium, lortab, roxicodone 30mg, and ambien,  I obviously have a high tolerance after all this time and with me being the weight and height I am I am scared for my health. I can't function if I do not have any pills. On a daily basis I could take 4-5 20mg adderalls with 7 lortabs (14 a day bc I will eventually take another dose of 7) 2 doses of 15mg valiums and 2 doses of 60mg roxicdone....i am a mess. If i dont have them I am constantly trying to find somethin else. My neighbor will give me some methadone and morphine pills.I have even tried to get off and take subutex but it got too expensive. I dont know what to do. I have no insurance and 3 kids by myself and cant afford to go to a rehab center. I just have to get off. Any suggetions or is anyone taking the same amount as me? Is this normal to take this much???

I'm sorry to say this, but your dr is completely irresponsible giving you those doses. You need a doctor who will help you. This one is enabling your addiction. You sound like you would lost certainly qualify for state medical assistance, so take advantage of it!

Give it some thought.  My pain actually got BETTER when I got clean.  Migraines don't have to be treated with narcotics.  It may be that they are tolerable to you, once you get off all drugs!  I bet you will be surprised!

How about going to an addiction specialist?  They are really good with this kind of thing.

I have tried talking to my doctor and he doesnt believe I am addicted...he says its all in my head and if I tak the dose I am supose to everyday and stay dicsiplined that it shouldn't be a problem. So, I already know I definitely have to go to a whol different doctor in order to get some help.... I am just so scared of getting off completely and still having to get iv dilautid and fenergen when I get my bad migraines...it is going to give me that high all over again...right!?

hi first off let me tell you that you need to find another doc that will not give you want but only what you need i have been on soboxone for 6 months now and havent taken a pill sence the day i started treatment, with what you are spending on all the other meds you should have no problem getting suboxone or subutex witch is cheaper....BUT YOU HAVE TO WANT TO GET CLEAN......If not nothing will work I was taken 12 to 16 loratab at a time about 40 tabs a day you can do this but you cant do it ALONE if you want to get clean than you will find a way to get your meds

Hi!  I think you need to tell this doctor that you want off the meds, so he can put you on a taper plan.  You can not just stop some of those things.  You are going to need to do it with medical supervision, ok?  Don't try to do it cold turkey.  You could die in the process!  He can give you medicine to keep you safe from seizures, etc.

Honestly, you probably need to be inpatient somewhere, but I do understand the insurance issue, and it's very expensive.  Try talking to the doctor, ok?  I'm sure he will respect your decision to get off all those meds, and if he doesn't, you need another doctor anyway!!!

Good luck!!!  Keep posting!

since buprenorphine, active ingredient in Subutex, acts to treat opiate addiction, it is also potent habit forming drug. Very often it causes drug dependence. It has opioid agonist effects, in order to effect opioid receptors in different way. Buprenorphine can be abused, specially if there is no physical dependence.

There is also another medicine called Suboxone. It is combination of naloxone and buprenorphine. It’s purpose is to decrease the likelihood of diversion and abuse. If a patient has a dependence on an opiate, he may have withdrawal symptoms when starting a treatment.

I hate to harp on it, but I and several friends are now free using the catapress patch, You will still have some withdralws but insomnia has been my biggest issude since using the patch. I have no more desire for any more pills and I use meletonin to try to help me sleep (Doesn't work) LOL You can do it. My friend abused for over 4 years, and it took 2 weeks using the patch and sleep aids to become free and clean. I am following his actions, and so far so good. I too have 3 kids and get no help, wife is always gone. My dausghter told me today I should stop driving.

It seems like your kids might be better off with you healthy, meaning someone might have to watch them while you detox and rehabilitate.  Don't be scared of life without drugs, eventually you'll thank yourself for it, and so will the fam
