any advice for methadone wd's....i need help!

So one of my friends who has been battling addiction (started off on narcotics, escalated to heroin and crack) has been taking methadone for the past year. He has not gone to in patient rehab because he doesn't have the money, so he just goes to the project cure place and gets methadone. Well, he has decided he really wants to try and quit, but saying he is really, really dope sick right now. I think he said he was on 60 mg a day, and he is saying he wants to quit CT. I am not sure, but I didn't think that was safe and he may get seizures? He is going mad because he is getting no sleep, which I told him is normal and expected....they are wd's, he is going to have some hurdles. He told me he took a bunch of ambien, melatonin and xanax and still couldn't sleep...he is reaching out for help and i don't know how to help him if he can't get into a inpatient rehab. the ERs around here don't do anything, and he is trying to come off the methadone, so he doesn't want that either....do they have stuff to get you off methadone? suboxone maybe?

any advice would be wonderful!!!!! asap!!!!!

This is way,way to much methadone to detox from, in fact its on the verge of just flat out insane, although their are people who have done it, I talked to a guy that was on 50mgs & was sent to jail for 6 months & he claims that even after 6 months off methadone he was still feeling very ill, so once he was released from jail he got back onto methadone & began a slow taper, he claims that once he got down to 3mgs he jumped off & has been doing very well since, I truly believe that most people who jump off methadone at high doses are vulnerable to relapse. Have your friend either start a slow detox, or if he has the insurance or the financial resourses to get onto suboxone, but dont jump off at 60mgs, ugh.  Penelope

hi, i dont know a ton on methadone, but i know he shouldnt be going ct from the much! he needs to do a very slow taper form it, i read a lot of people who were taperiong for methadone with success but that is very dangerous to ct from that much methadone. some more peopl ewill be on here soon with more info
