any advise

hi all, ive been on this site a few times and have desided to add my story and ask for any advice, ive been taking tramadol for the past 6 years, at first it was for a mottorcycle accident but pretty soon was for the other well known reason most people on this forum will relate to. i had been taking upto 20, (50 mg) tablets a day untill the past weekend when i had my second siezure. being surrounded by good friends and my wife i was in good hands,i have now begun the proccess of getting professional help. iam now cut down to 8 tablets a day and worked a plan out with my devoted wife to tapper of this terible drug. is there any other substitue i could take to make the progress quicker? i went through the prossess 4 years ago and it was the worst thing i had went through in my life the withdrawell is bad but the deppressions were horrible. iam only 4 days into tappering and the deppressions have not hit home yet as iam still on 8 a day, iam in the uk and been to my GP but the process is very slow, and private treatment comes with costs of arround 4 thousand pounds. Is there a quicker way to do this with minimall withdrawl.   many thanks for reading   stevie!

Hi Stevie,

Welcome to the forum.

Tapering from tramadol must be done under medical supervision or you will only end up with further seizures.

Does your GP know about your current tapering schedule? because going from 20 to 8 in four days sounds far too fast to me.

You shouldn't need private treatment. It's all available on the NHS.

If your doctor doesn't know about the speed of your tapering schedule, you should stop tapering now and see him tomorrow.  Any problem with appointments, tell them it's an emergency, because it is.

I'm not criticising you at all. You're doing exactly the right thing, just maybe too fast and without enough backup.

Take care

hi cassmax, hope you doing well, i am on day 15 off tramadol and i thought i would tell you how i am feeling.  it helped me to know that things will get better and they do!  about the first 5 or 6 days are the worst and then you start feeling a bit better and bit better is awesome compared to the beginning.  by now i am sleeping without having to take tylenol pm and i am waking up feeling better.  dont get me wrong it is still hard but it is nothing like those first few days!  you should know you are doing GREAT and you are NOT alone!  it DOES get better!  good luck and keep posting!           crystal

and congrats on your clean time :)

there is a private journal that would be interesting for you because it is a sort of thread meeting point for many people quitting tramadol....they met there and help each other ..
