first day of withdrawls tomorrow!

Hello, I'm pretty new to this website and I have posted before about my suboxone disaster! Tomorrow morning starts my withdrawl plan! I'm so so scared to try this again. The last time I did this I went into precipatated withdrawl. I'm currently on 42mgs(methadone) and will have to go at least 2 days without nothing. last time I did this I went 2 days, but at a much higher dose and it about killed me!
I'm praying this time that I will be in enough withdrawl that suboxone will work for me and this will not happen to me again! Anyone have any idea if 2 days is going to be long enough to make the suboxone work for me. The dr assures me it will, but after last time u can see why I'm so nervous!
thanks for your support..I can't even go to sleep I'm so nervous!

A suboxone detox treatment is best started once withdrawal has begun, and your dose is adjusted over several days. Suboxone and Subutex are given as a pill which dissolves under the tongue. After the initial level is reached, typical withdrawal symptoms normally associated with Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Heroin and other Opiates rarely occur. When administered and monitored correctly, Suboxone and Subutex offer a fast, pain-free, withdrawal from highly addictive drugs.

This whole thing is throwing me into a panic mode. I feel my heart pounding and my head is just swirling.. This is my only option right now. The longest I can handle a withdrawal is 2 days and I dont mean to sound dramatic about this, Im serious.

I am learning myself about this...From what I understand and am almost positive you have to be in WDs to take sub or it will throw you into acute WD...someone will come on here to help you with it who has done these meds...some stay on sub forever because they relapse so much I think....I see your point but methadone withdrawals are lengthy compared to most opiates so I guess they use the sub....but they have to wait until Ds start ...then I see them have to withdraw from the sub...dont know...research..post and ask anyone you can who has experience with sub before you make decisions about these drugs...I think from what i have read that sub has helped many ...but you need to make an informed decision

I have been reading this post and Im getting very concerned. Im not sure that I just dont understand what it is Im reading. Some here might know my story some may not, but on the 3rd of March I have an appointment with my doctor to see if I can get a prescription for  suboxone. I did not realize that you had to go through days of withdrawal. Is this right? I was hoping and praying that I would be able to start suboxone as soon as possible. At this point I am not clean. I cannot quit cold turkey, Im not strong enough and pain pills will still be in the house. I need something that will work now.
If I could just quit C/T and go through days of withdrawal then why would I need suboxone? Am I not understanding this whole suboxone thing? Can someone please clear things up for me!!! The 3rd is coming up real quick...Thanks

There are so many post and so quick that its hard to reply back to everyone that fast. However everyone on here made excellent points. I've decide to get my dosage down like people have suggested to about 20-30mgs of methadone then start my suboxone treatment!! Thank god that I have insurance and I'm able to choose under a Dr.'s orders to work my way down and then get help. Once again thanks for everyones help on here.
I think it so neat that there is so many people out here willing to help iand in the same boat I'm in or have been in!

HI Chris. I to am on Methadone @50mgs.Chris i went through years of  on one thing or another. beer ,cocaine percocets, oxys. I am non waiting for a possible hip-replacement and take the methadone instead of the oxys or perks,as i have insurance and can get anything i want. This is just a suggestion, why not come down to 20 or 30mgs as ive been told that Suboxone/Subutex can only accomodate 30mgs at the most. I was thinking of going on the Sub,but as a result of the operation i thought methadone would be better.A doctor told me (John its better the devil you know) it makes sense.Anyhow im in your corner, moreover thanks for your input on that other issue. your buddy john

it is federal law that physicians cannot treat addiction with methadone...but they are able to prescribe it for pain purposes, which i dont really understand, i thinks it is a terrible pain reliever, advil worked better for my pain.
but what they dont tell you is how hard and miserable it is to get off...so for addiction purposes, you have to go to a clinic, but can get it for chronic pain.
its a nasty drug.

It is pretty sad that doctors are not more educated on methadone...there are some who has prescribed xanax with it...???
There is a law now in NC, not sure where else...but methadone can only be obtained from the clinic - private docs can no longer prescribe it.  I honestly think that is a wonderful thing...as none of the methadone deaths in this state have been clinic related.

wait2long has basically spelled it out for you.  Methadone can take 5-7 days before it will be clear for you to entertain suboxene.....I've have never experienced a transition from one to the next, however, is it possible your doctor is not aware of the risks/half life of methadone? It's very different from that of other opiates.... I find it very odd he/she would recommend transitioning after only 2 days?? But I'm not a doctor....I'm only venturing my opinion....good luck and keep posting

I hope the transition will prove to be an easy one for you.  In the event sub is not for you - try not to panic or get too upset...you will simply take another route.  We will get throught all of this.
My fiance and I have been detoxing since Aug.'07 from 110mg...our last dose will be March 6...we are very excited and scared.  We have been using a lot of vitamins, minerals, herbs and other remedies to alleviate the discomfort.
Best of luck!  Be strong...keep posting.  This forum is awesome, great people.  The compassion and support here surpasses that of any group/meeting.  Keep us updated.

2 Days & a dose of 42mgs may not do you justice. & Im really surprised that a doctor would take a person at 42mgs & do this, but I guess all states differ, as where I live & thru kaiser their rules regarding sub goes as follows- You must go to stay in their facilitys for 7 days & must be either at 10mgs or lower & you have to be without methadone for more then 3 days, sometimes 4 or 5, as they take weight, health issues all that jazz into play. The reason I know this is because a few months ago I started to get fearful in my taper off methadone, I was scared, & rightfully so, as this is a big lifetime change & lets face it no one wants to feel the wrath of withdrawals, so I called a addiction specialist from Kaiser & asked about getting onto sub, & these were there terms & ways, which I didnt care for, also she didnt feel that sub was for me, which I found strange, she claimed that I have come so far in my taper & that Im doing so good, basically she gave me the ole, if its not broken why try & fix it speach. She also claimed that just like methadone, sub is another drug in which you must detox off of, so at the end of the day, I guess sub really wasnt for me? & Maybe thats a bit premature of me to say, as I still have a few weeks left in my long drawn out taper. Lots of Luck, Penelope              P.S Write back & let us know how you did?

I'm on suboxone too. I also went into precipated withdrawels and it was awful. I was so sick and was panicing. But I stayed on the Sub and it leveled out very quickly. I had only been in withdrawels for about 18-20 hours. You should be absolutley fine with 2 days of withdrawels and you'll really appreciate the sub at that point.
Good luck and keep posting

i was on 20-30 mgs of methadone a day...i waited ALMOST 5 full days from my last dose of meth before i took my first dose of sub, i was still put into precipitated WD's....BUT it only lasted a few hours...ask your doctor for some clonidine, NOT klonopin...but clonidine, i couldnt have made the transition with out it...i think you will be fine at 4 days with the clonidine, but you MAY still feel pretty bad for a couple of hours....can you lower your meth dose more? if not, you can do this...
if i can do it...then you can...whats a couple of hours?  also i HAD to take the full 32 mgs max dose my first day, and for the next 6 weeks to bypass all of the methadone WD's, as you know they CAN last for up to 6 weeks, but i could tell when i was starting to feel some normalcy...i am now down to 12 mgs...
good luck and i also just posted a lot of suboxone facts and info in my profile...if your interested.

I just went Cold Turkey, maybe a lot different for me though chris as I have only snoked dope 7 times in 55 years, and only took oxyconshit for pain relief, I count myself lucky I have no cravings in the head for pills, in fact if someone offered any I would feel like punching them, then smashing the pills with a hammer, I hate them that much, please get off all pills asap, the pain is real bad, but just think in a few short weeks NO PILLS, and boy that's a great feeling, but boy I'ts hard.

Really gunning for you, and please keep posting, it really helps Chris, we all know your pain and want to help all we can, only friends here, no judges.

Go on please.

David.

Hell of a job! Im proud of ya! I was originally on oxys and then to methadone. I can;t say that the switch to methadone was bad because the methadone kept me off the streets, finished college, and have maintained a normal and legal life.So now I'm wanting to switch to suboxne, but Like I said I'm scared! I can do the withdrawl, but my question is WHEN IS ENUF GOING TO BE ENUF??? By thsi I mean how long does a person have to withdrawl to get the suboxone to work? Or maybe the suboxone just will not work for me! I don't want to give up yet, but I hear these great stories about suboxone and I'm thinking how did these people do it? Some people don't even detox before switching.
So anyone out there that has doen the withdrawl before taking the suboxone I would love to know what & how you did it?????????????????????
Also I'm very proud of your acomplishments! keep up the good work..thanx for posting!

Oh the leg pains, and the arms, mine have subsided quite a bit now, I seem to get crawly feelings now, but compared to those CRAZY LEGS/ARMS I'ts a sinch, after 5 days with 3 hrs sleep ( total ) I took a couple of sleepers and 4 Kalms and blissful sleep for 7 hours.

Thinking of you on your journey to reality.

thanx for your support? yes your right about the strangers helping us out a lot more sometimes! I would of never imagined this site would of been dedicated as it is, but anyways I will try what you said about the thomas recipe! Someone has mentioned that before, but I'm not sure what that is and how it works! I know from previous experience that I will need meds for: restless leg jerks! I get these the worst! Is there any great meds for this! I will read up on some forums around here to see what to take! thanx for your help!

Pray, its all in Gods hands,
go to the dr, even the ER if you need to.
I did the detox, w/d from fentanyl, over the weekend and didn't get to the dr for 4 days, it was rough, but after seeing the dr and getting some meds  to help with the shakes and the nausa, it was much better, seek medical attention, that is the best thing you can do. also check out the thomas recipe on this sight, a lot of people use it and say it helps. have you gathered the things you'll need? diahrrea med, vitiams, I would also say, green tea, it helps wash your system, drink as much water as you can, take hot baths, it causes your pours to open and release toxins. for me, it took 8 days, I wish you all the luck in the world, we're all here for you, post a lot and read everything you can on this fourm, it REALLY does help. I spoke to every one I knew and NO-ONE helped like the people here. isn't it strange, how strangers are more willing to talk and share and help more than those who supposely love us?  it boggles my mind.
best wishes
