So I am a long time addict to any pain med with opites i can get my hands on currently oxys. I just heard about a doctor in  my home town who perscribes the suboxone treatment. I need all the infor i can get about this medicine. I have been using for a little over 2 years. I use anywhere from 120mg of oxys a day or 10 vic tens a day depending on what i can get my hands on. Please help me out guys ive tried to quit several times but the wd's make me give up and go back to using. Should i wait until the oxy is out of my system to take the sub or take it as soon as possible. I need any info that anyone can give me...........

YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO BE IN WITHDRAWS BEFORE YOU TAKE ANY SUBOXONE!!!!   I read your question as whether or not you could take suboxone before withdraws set in.  DO NOT TAKE SUBOXONE WITHOUT BEING IN WITHDRAW.  I did.  Inadvertanly.  It was sheer HELL.   I have a difficult time even thinking about that horrific night.  Anyway,  please follow directions or you will be sorry.

Hello, I have been through the Suboxone program as well, and had to wait 36 hours.  Like, I said, every Dr. is different, and the program is most likely tailored to the person.

That's why I suggested that the Dr. would have you come in for a consultation and go from there.

Good Thoughts!

Sounds like maybe you have an emotional attachment to the pills and I think in addition to this forum you should try your local chapter of NA. Having face time with others in your predicament should help with the support you need to stop thinking of the pills. In the mean time, everyone here is committed to helping you get through this while we are fighting the same battle ourselves. We know what it feels like so please talk to us and let us know how we can help. My 2 cents.

Wait..wait..wait...you do NOT have to be off of the meds 4 or 5 days. You have to be in mild to severe detox for 12 to 15 hours.

I actually did the program. Please do some research before you go on the program...decide if you are going to do short, or long term It is an excellent tool to help you detox.

Good Luck.

do you have to have an oxy? that is the highest drug out there. can you just do percs or vics instead?  what do you take the oxy's for? do you have severe pain? Because you have been taking them for so long it will be a bit of a stuggle. but if you really want to be off of them you have to set your mind to it. Please try. oxy's are so ugly. ive seen so many of my friends go down hill on them and they werent in pain at all. You can do it. this forum is so unbelievable helpful. if you need inside help please keep coming back to read other ppl's statements. dont give up.

RE: Suboxone..Go talk with the Dr. in town prescribing it to get an idea of how the scedule for detox/tapering will work for you.

This is how it worked for me:

1st appt.  consultation..I was informed that I had to be free of any meds for 36 hours before I could come back and get Sub.  36 hours of nothing!  That's practically cold turkey on my own!!  I thought, begged for valium or something--NO GO

2nd appt. crawled in, got my first dose, had to sit in his office until it took effect.  You can't take them if you aren't already in withdrawals.  They block other opiates, and will put you in to horrible withdrawals if you are not following directions.

From there, each Dr. is probably different.  Mine would only give me scrips for 2-3 days, so I spent a lot of time going to appointments, AND anything else you take on top of it won't work (opiates), probably not booze, either.

Get your questions ready and go talk to him.  It works for some, not for others, like everything else.

The important thing is you are ready to do something.

I am on day 9 after a sort of taper/ween program, then cold turkey at home, no one around but these fine folks on this website.

This is how I did it.  Right here!

email if you have specific questions on Suboxone or detox

from what ive heard you have to be off of oxy's for 4-5 days before you can start on the suboxone. why dont you try tappering off of them instead of sending your body through a shock. Break them up in halfs and take a half every 4 hrs then decrease it 1/2 hr every other day. thats what i did w/ vics. and it worked. although oxy's are very strong, im sure you will get great advice from others in here for the people in this forum is who helped me stop w/out outside help. write me in my profile if you need to.
