I don't understand why the doctor who perscribed you sub didn't give you clear directions. Sub can be a good step down from methadone provided that you don't get stuck on sub. Some docs and out patient clinics specialize in getting people off methadone using sub and some other drugs. The process takes about 6-8 weeks to go from methadone to sub and other meds to drug free. If you want more info , I could find a linc for you. all the best

Having gone cold turkey off of Methadone myself in the past, i would say this is a smarter way to come off of it.

I would plan on at least three weeks with the suboxone and be doing a taper at the same time. If you don't remain commited to a short term go with the suboxone then you will just end up with another problem.

You will still feel some discomfort after the suboxone but much less than c/t off methadone. Best of luck to you.......

I go to a treatment center every day to get my dose there they only have 1 doctor . I don't think I can change doctors.

When I went into rehab, I was on 90mgs of methadone. They waited 3 days for me to be in sufficient enough withdrawals to begin suboxone treatment. They started at 12mg and weened me down over the next 12 days. My last dose of suboxone was 4mg ( go figure why not 2mg?).

I went through complete hell for the next week and a half and by the last 5 days of treatment, i was about 80% ok. It took about another month to be completely normal.

In my opinion, and it's just my opinion, I would stay on it atleast a month but make sure that you are slowly weening down from your starting dose and not get stagnant. Remain active in your recovery. You will suffer some, but just be smart and safe about it.

Support groups ( NA ) work well along with individual therapy. My sober date is May 13 2009. Good luck and stay active in your recovery. Most importantly don't dwell on the dosage amount cause with sub it doesn't matter; lower is better!

I would talk to a methadone patent and asked them how long there wds lasted . Besides that like I have said before this really is something you need to talk with your doctor about I would make it very clear to him you dont want to be on it long term some people do like 21 day tapers but coming off methadone that may not work
